One Shaky Week

August 31, 2014 by DanicasDaily 6 Comments

Happy Long Weekend All!  This past week has been one of the craziest yet since we have lived in the Bay Area. We have felt a few Earth Quakes here and there, but, nothing as intense as the Napa Earth Quake last Sunday. It literally felt like our house was lifted off the ground, we could see everything swaying back and forth including our guest bedroom doors opening/closing and we clearly heard the loud “wave” noises as it passed through our neighborhood.  It is pretty amazing to me that we live approximately the same distance as our office from the Earth Quake and our office took a serious beating in comparison to our house.  Can I just say that while I love the smell of wine being made and the hops we smell at night from the Brewery down the street…but, smelling wine saturated carpet is not such a good thing!

I had originally thought I’d make it back on Wednesday to share our Before and After Office Pictures for Wordless Wednesday, but, I did not have the time or energy as we scrambled to pick up all the pieces.  I still wanted to save this for reference here and to share the pictures with you all, so here is our before after the quake hit and after spending over 10+ hours cleaning pictures.

I will start out by say the pictures really do not do justice to what our office actually looked like and how much work it took us to get it back to where it is now.

BEFORE – this is just one of the many offices we have with windows missing.

AFTER

IMG_4264

BEFORE ~ So much spilled wine……

IMG_4235

AFTER ~ Amazing that none of the computer monitors or phones broke.

IMG_4340

Our supply cabinet and all our pictures were on the floor.

AFTER

IMG_4259

I was so sad when I thought these 3 wines (my favorites!) were broken….but, they fell from the top shelf without a single, crack, break or nick!

IMG_4256

Several of us also have natural sky lights where the ceiling is no more…..

IMG_4238

And there is a lot of cracked sheet rock throughout our entire building.  We are on the second floor but the third floor was the hardest hit.

IMG_4244

BEFORE – This entire filing cabinet was filled with wine bottles….

IMG_4225

AFTER – Some were saved, others not so much.

IMG_4270

BEFORE – This office has boxes of wine that did and did not survive.

IMG_4227

AFTER – PART 1 – The entire floor was saturated with wine.

IMG_4276

AFTER PART 2 – Pretty amazing that we had the best carpet cleaners who were able to get every single stain out of the carpet (for the most part).

IMG_4331

BEFORE – Crazy fact the carpet cleaners taught us….if you spill wine, saturate it with water, then, towel it up and the stain will be gone.

IMG_4220

AFTER – I “almost” want to spill wine on the carpet to test their theory Open-mouthed smile

IMG_4279

BEFORE

IMG_4224

AFTER ~ all the wine stains gone!

IMG_4334

BEFORE ~ our kitchen lost so many dishes and the fridge move several feet….

IMG_4218IMG_4219

AFTER

IMG_4328

It amazes me that our entire wine closet did not have a single broken bottle despite all those bottles on the floor and some landing on each other.

IMG_4215

Just another sign that we use a pretty good quality glass on on Geyser Peak, XYZin and Hardy’s Wines.

IMG_4299

It’s also pretty amazing not a single bottle cracked this glass either.

IMG_4300

BEFORE – Funny fact ~ everyone in our office isn’t sure where this plant came from….

IMG_4208

AFTER

IMG_4320

BEFORE

IMG_4203

AFTER….

IMG_4322

Natural air conditioning.  It’s kinda funny to me that the construction workers have been coming through our missing windows to get power for their saws, etc..

IMG_4288

BEFORE – one of the cleaner offices with the biggest sky light.

IMG_4209

AFTER

IMG_4293

BEFORE – and the messiest paper office – crazy that the filing cabinet lifted up and moved so much we had to move it to get the papers out from underneath.

IMG_4204

AFTER

IMG_4318

Coolest find during our cleaning….Sip does happen, especially after a week like this!

IMG_4245

In one day, I went over 9 miles and burned over 3,500 calories cleaning!

Thank you all for the Facebook messages and emails checking in on us to make sure we were safe and OK after the Napa Earthquake that happened last Sunday.  We read them all even if I haven’t had a chance to respond to everyone yet.

Here is to hoping life gets back to a somewhat normal next week and I get back in my groove!

Night all!

WOW is all I can say! AND so glad your house was relatively safe! You know I’m a winer, so I was anxious to see how this would affect the industry but from what I’ve read, not so much…which is a good thing!! Since I’ve been on WW this time, I’ve not been consuming so much…but I do love and collect the stuff 🙂 Please update us on your WW journey, and let’s get back on track!! We have 13 weeks until the Holiday Season begins 🙂

I would love to get emails from you but I am not a computer person and I can’t seem to get on your email list. It keeps going to my school email address on Google and it won’t allow me to subscribe. Could you help?
