Pub Grub!

June 13, 2011 by DanicasDaily 13 Comments

Happy Monday all!  Thanks for all your comments on creating your own Harvest Grain Blend on my last post.  I am all about trying to re-create something from Trader Joe’s so that you all can try it even if you don’t have a TJ’s near you.  I have their Spicy Peanut Vinaigrette on my list still….one day I will attempt it.

This morning started with a Cinnamon Raisin Peanut Butter Bagel Thin (6 points+)

Then, The Husband had a good laugh at how it took me 15 minutes to cut up 1 Mango and get just this much.  But, it was actually delicious ~ No Christmas Tree taste!

IMG_3195

I spent my morning getting so many things checked off my list and feeling ultra productive.  The Husband gets major kudos for stopping by to bring me this delicious Iced Decaf Americano with 2 pumps coconut and a splash of half & half (LOVE!_

image

I have actually been really excited to make THIS Ruby Kale Salad with Citrus and Berries ever since I picked the flyer up at the Farmer’s Market.

I pretty much followed the recipe, but, I added 1/4 cup Trader Joe’s Dried Golden Berries and toasted sesame seeds.

IMG_3206

I added a Trader Joe’s pre-cooked marinated chicken breast for some protein making this BIG salad 8 points+.

I LOVED the crunch of the kale, the nuttiness of the walnuts along with the sweet chewy dried fruit and juicy oranges/berries.

IMG_3208

Delicious and it only took 10 minutes to make.

IMG_3207

Mid afternoon I knew EXACTLY what I wanted to snack on ~ Super Sweet Melon!

IMG_3213

2 Tbsp Trader Joe’s Jalapeno Pub Cheese and 8 Social Crackers!  I LOVE this stuff and it is totally worth the occasional 5 points+ treat.

IMG_3215

Dinner tonight involved MORE “PUB” Food.  I picked up two types of sausages (for $6) on Friday when I stopped at Fresh & Easy.

IMG_3218

I mean check out out the ingredients and the fact that EACH sausage is only 3 points+ ~ DEAL!

IMG_3220

Of course this is the ONE I was the MOST excited to try ~ I puffy heart Spicy CHEESE anything!

IMG_3219

Still just 3 points+ per link!

IMG_3224

I cooked them on the grill until they were crispy and their internal temperature reached 160 degrees (about 25 minutes).

IMG_3228

I started with the Jalapeno one (but it was SO HOT, I couldn’t eat it so I switched to the Sun Dried Tomato Sausage).  Topped with all the fixin’s (organic ketchup, mustard, relish, cucumber chips and cherry tomatoes) with corn on the side.

Delicious ~ 6 points+ for my sausage with the works & 2 points+ for the corn.

IMG_3232

I see some Caramel Sea Salted Milk Chocolate in my future for dessert!

Everythings looks so delicious and colorful. I can never find bratwurst or sausages that are low in points- I’ll have to look a little farther because they’re obviously out there! Have a great day!

My favorite pub grub is pretty much anything fried like onion rings >.<. Yeah there's healthified versions of that sort of stuff but they seem to never taste as good so I just live without it.

It's pretty funny how long one can take on cutting up a mango and how little fruit you can actually get out of it! That silly pit needs to be edible!!

I’m in WI where the Brat is a staple. We frequent a tiny little grocery store that has an awesome meat market and buy their specialty brats. Our favorites are Jalepeno and Cajun. We like ’em spicy too.

I’ve been obsessed with mangos this summer and after the 5th or 6th time taking forever to cut one up, I invested in a mango pitter from Bed Bath and Beyond. Totally worth it to get two perfectly cut sides of mango!

I LOVE Nachos! That has to be my favorite pub grub!

So I have to tell you… I tried the coconut/mocha latte and I didn’t like it 🙁 I was so bummed. Maybe I ordered it wrong but it just had a “different” taste to it.

That’s a lot of cutting for such a tiny amount of mango ;P …but at least it didn’t taste like a Xmas tree lol.

I have never tried a kale salad. Which is odd bc I LOVE kale. I think I’m a little afraid of it raw, but I think I should give it a whirl.

My fav pub grub has got to be fries (esp sweet pot), sliders when done right & tacos. Oh, and nachos ! YUUM

Deanna – I bought a mango splitter too but I can only get it to work when the mango is still firm (at which point it still tastes like a Christmas Tree). Otherwise it gets all smushed and stringy. How do you do it?

@Frani I think you have to wait for the perfect moment between firm and soft! I like to scoop out each side with a spoon – no cutting needed at all!
