What is one food you have to have each year?

February 15, 2011 by DanicasDaily 17 Comments

Today has been such an awesome day with delicious eats and treats plus some SUPER COOL NEWS!  I got to actually meet the REAL Annie in person today!  She visited our corporate headquarters for the first time ever and I got to chat it up with her a bit.  She is so completely down to earth, nice and everything I imagined she would be.

Today was also such a good food day ~ I honestly LOVED everything I ate and want to do it all over again Open-mouthed smile

Sometimes you just have to have a little Bread n Buttah!  I crave nooks and crannies (5 points+)

what are nooks and crannies

Along with HUGE bowls of fruit ~ banana, blueberries, strawberries & grapes!

bowl of berries

Can you believe I didn’t have a dirty latte?  Make that TWO days in a row!!  The only thing is I think my mouth missed the chocolate Open-mouthed smile

Recess Hearts

It was worth it though…..2 points+ and completely tasty with my cup of joe.

Reese's

When my co-worker mentioned Fire Cracker Chicken from Panda Express, I knew I couldn’t go back and eat my planned lunch.  Afterall, it ONLY comes around once a year for Chinese New Year.

I LOVE this chicken ~ it’s slightly sweet, totally spicy and I just found out they have the recipe to make it ONLINE!! I am sooooo re-creating it soon! (6 points+)

Broccoli Beef (3 points+)

Panda express

Tons of fiberrific steamed veggies instead of rice or chow mein!  Not pretty but completely delicious.  I covered it with hot mustard this time instead of sriracha.

healthy chinese food

I had actually managed to pass up all the brunch items we had at work today, but, when the fruit came out this afternoon, I HAD to have some….

fruit tray

I am pretty sure I fell IN LOVE with Brie & Chewy Sour Dough today.  It’s so good….now I know why I NEVER pay attention to it when it’s served….I had 2 pieces of sourdough with Brie (5 points+)

sourdough with brie

Dinner was leftover Turkey & Spinach Manicotti….it is definitely better the next day.  One day I am going to make up a big pasta dish, but, not eat it until the next day – it’s always better than anyway. (9 points+)

stuffed shells

Q’s

Do you have any foods that only come around once a year that you just HAVE TO HAVE?

I think I can pass on my “themed” candies that I can get any time ~ like a Reese’s heart I can get a Reese’s anytime.  But, give me those “circus peanut” bunnies at Easter and I can eat the whole bag….same with candy corn pumpkins!  All candy aside, this Fire Cracker Chicken is something I HAVE to HAVE ~ it’s only on the menu for like a month, but, should be on there all year long!

YES!! I for once finally finished posting BEFORE Biggest Loser!!! Off to enjoy the show!

Night all!

A food I have to have each year? It used to be clementines… in Oregon, they would come into the stores every Christmas from Japan, individually wrapped in red paper. But now, you can get clementines all year round. So, I guess it would be Lindt Lindor chocolate truffles in the blue wrapping. Melt in your mouth lusciousness. (Yes, I know you can get those every day of the year, too…but you can’t eat them every day and expect to be a Weight Watcher!)

Peeps at Easter. Gotta bite the heads off the chickens and bunnies! Peep XMAS trees just don’t cut it. Also, Orange/Cranberry sauce at TJs for T-giving (not available any other time)

Every year, I have to have one Cadbury egg. Just one, but the first time I see them every year, I have to buy one.

    That manicotti looks sooo good!

So funny you asked this on *this* post because the one thing I have to have is a Reese’s Peanut Butter egg for Easter. I just love that ratio of chocolate to peanut butter that’s different than the cups. I haven’t even seen the hearts!!!!!

See’s Chocolates! Not exactly only available ‘once a year’ but I get them for Valentine’s Day. In years past I could easily down a 2 lb box in less than a week! This year I’m making them last and only eating one per day. 🙂

That chicken looks so good I went to the recipe to look at making it tonight. Does it really say 1 1/2 tsp. black beans or am I reading that wrong? That seems so weird to me.

My once a year food is turkey. I really don’t get it any other time then Thanksgiving so I HAVE to have it.

    Hi Heather,

I am thinking they meant black bean sauce, you know like the asian sauce you can buy? I don’t think it really has real black beans in it per say.

Do tell if you make it how it is…

I think they mean fermented ( preserved) black beans available in Asian grocery stores.

After seeing this post, I just had to have Panda Express the other night 🙂 I just started eating there recently, and it’s become my favorite local fast food because I love that I can get such a filling dinner for a reasonable calorie count and price! I love their mixed veggies, and getting that in place of rice is a real calorie-saver. Anyway, thanks for turning me on to the firecracker chicken – it was delicious!

The food I look forward to every year is pumpkin ice cream from a local ice cream shop. Oh my, it is soooo good.
