A Tribute To Honey!

July 8, 2010 by DanicasDaily 39 Comments

Hi all ~ I know I don’t usually get too personal in what I write, but, today has been one of the saddest days of my life and we had one of the hardest decisions to ever make.  This post will probably be more for me than for anyone else, but, I really felt like I needed to share just a few of my favorite moments as a tribute to the BEST cat anyone could ever have.

A few years ago we had this cute cat just show up on our door step.  We actually thought she was pregnant or lost since she was declawed because she had a big belly and was walking around meowing telling us all about it.  We figured we better feed her because she obviously needed her nourishment 🙂

image

Well, months came and month’s went, but, no babies ever came.  She pretty much adopted us though and decided to hang out in our backyard all day long basking in the sun.

This was the PERFECT cat for me since I am super allergic to ALL animals (sad since I grew up on a farm!) and she preferred to stay outside to play.  I LOVE animals but they give me asthma attacks and a swollen face 🙁

She seriously fell IN LOVE with The Husband.  She would wait for him to get home sitting on the porch and would sit outside next to him any time he was working in the yard.  He could put ANYTHING on the ground he touched and she would rub her head all over it 😀 She really became part of our family and I didn’t realize how much I LOVED her until today.

I fell IN LOVE with her personality…..she had a thing for ALL BOXES, especially if The Husband put them on the ground 🙂

imageimage

She is just as corny as The Husband. She literally flips out whenever she hears the can of soft food open. But, it gets better than that, she actually stands on her plate so that nobody can take it away while she eats it.

Photobucket

She had funny ways of sitting….

image

And laying down (That’s the “Cat Tent” I got for her to use when the weather got bad)

IMG_6120

I really LOVE how she brought out all the quirkiness in The Husband ~ remember the Kitty Ladder he built just so she could climb the fence 🙂

Photobucket

Remember Cat Man??? Yup, he bought this mask just to be a “cat” with her 😉

IMG_2316

He has a fierce claw, but, is really just a nice kitty kat! :D

IMG_2314IMG_2315

He taunted our adopted kitty with “meows” and “hisses”…..

IMG_2309 IMG_2310

It only took her a minute or two to figure out her dad is CRAZY! :D  This STILL makes me laugh every time I see these pics :)   Here kitty, kitty, kitty ~ Maybe I should pet him :D

IMG_2311 IMG_2312

Today we got a call that something had happened to our kitty.  I never realized HOW AWFUL it would feel to get a call like that.

When we got home, she was bleeding everywhere, meowing and couldn’t move.  We rushed her to the vet where they put her on an IV, Oxygen and took X-Rays.  They showed us that her ribs were crushed, lungs punctured with fluids in them, her hip was fractured and basically even with surgery she would probably never be to walk/support her body weight again.

We were really left with no choice other than to put her to sleep…..I NEVER wish that on anyone – it’s the worst decision to make!  As hard as it is to accept, I know it was the right decision because I would never want her to live her life paralyzed, unable to move and unable to communicate/understand what happened and why she can’t go back to her frisky cat ways.

Photobucket

I am not sure if she was hit by a car or hurt by some one or some animal.  I am not sure if it’s better to know what happened or to not know how it happened……

All I really know is that it all happened so fast and it was too soon to say good bye to our Adopted Kitty……I want her back!

IMG_7027

Today we finally gave her a name ~ Honey!  The nephews always said that was her name because she was the nicest cat around 🙂

I am sure she is happy now in a place with no pain and unlimited canned food with lots of other kitties and people to love her.

IMG_9253

But, I cannot tell you all how much we will miss her ~ she really did give us some of the BEST people and kitty years of our lives ~ we will never forget her 😀

I’m so sorry about your loss, I know what it feels like. 9 years ago, my house burned down. I was the only one home, 11 years old, and I lost my kitty, Callie. We built our house back in the same spot, and for about a year I tried to convince myself that she got out of the house and was roaming around in our backyard. It will get better, and just be thankful that you were blessed with Honey’s presence even for just a short while. May God’s peace be with you.

I am so sorry for your loss, Danica. In 2008 my cat of 12 and a half years passed and I never got to say good-bye, none of us in the family did. The morning of my Social Diploma (final exam of the course), he wasn’t walking well, he was stumbling and crying this horrific cry. I had to leave to go write it and when I came home my mom was crying. I asked what was wrong but I knew what happened. My mom took it the hardest since he was “her” cat, she loved him so much. She took him to the vet that morning and when she got home he was already gone. I’ll never forget him, we have since gotten a new cat but it is not the same. Once again, I am so sorry, you will always have those great memories with her. She looked like a beautiful cat. xx

I am so so so so sorry to hear this. As a pet lover myself, I am heartbroken for you. *hugs* A few years ago one of my parents’ dogs was in a tragic accident where she tried to jump over the fence to play with my dad who was in the front yard. We had a picket fence, and she impaled herself on one of the pickets. I was gut-wrenchingly awful, and there was nothing we could do to save her. I think, like with your cat, these situations where it is so unexpected and so sudden are the hardest to deal with. Allow yourself to grieve; she was like a member of your family!

I hope sweet Honey is up there playing around in the boxes now 🙂

Oh, Danica I am so sorry to hear this! I had cats all my life, and now that I have one of my own, I don’t know what I would do if something like that happened to my Stella. Honey seemed to be very loved and I am sure she lived a happy life! It was the right decision you made, as hard as I’m sure it was- she wouldn’t have lived that happy life any longer. Stay strong, I’m thinking of you!

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. It is always difficult to lose a pet, even if they are only with us for a short time. The important thing to remember is that you gave her a better life by adopting her, and that she was probably very happy to have you in her life. 🙂

    ((HUGS, HUGS, & MORE HUGS))

I am so, so sorry to hear that Honey has crossed the Rainbow Bridge. I have had to make the same difficult decision to let a beloved meowser go and know how heartwrenching it is. I have also had a couple others pass on their own. I am tearing up as I write this both because I still miss my own dear departed kittehs and because I truly do understand your pain.

However, please keep in mind that you & your DH did Honey a tremendous kindness by taking her in when someone else had obviously abandoned her, and y’all gave her many good years. Were it not for your loving actions, she likely would have departed this plane of existence much, much sooner and would not have been in the presence of someone who loved her.

And I will miss seeing her in your posts. The blog entries where she made an appearance–on her own or with your DH–were always cute.

This definitely brought tears to my eyes and brought back memories of a pure white persian cat with two different coloured eyes that i had when i was in college. Came home to find out that a neighbours boy had kicked it so bad that we had to put it down. I cried my eyes out for days.
