1 point Real Deal Bacon

July 3, 2017 by DanicasDaily 5 Comments

Hi everyone! I love bacon. Honestly it’s the one thing I really missed when I did the vegan and vegetarian thing. There is something about real, deal bacon from the sizzle in the pan until you taste the rich, salty crunch that keeps you coming back again and again. I’m super picky about the ingredients (no nitrates or frakenmeat) and points as some can be as much as 3 Smartpoints a piece. I’m a realist in that I know I cannot eat just one piece of bacon and I’m just not willing to give up 6-9 points on it either.

Enter the bacon of my dreams. Have you all checked out this bacon at Trader Joe’s?

It’s only 1 Smartpoint a slice and oh so good for real, deal bacon. The best part – look at that ingredient list – 100% real.

I totally built my breakfast around it pondering how many pieces of bacon I could have if I traded in 1 or 2 pieces of toast. Bacon won over bread.

I ended up with 1 scrambled egg (2 sp), 3 pieces bacon (3 sp!), 1 piece Nature’s Own Butter Bread topped with 1/2 Tbsp Land O Lakes Whipped Butter (3 sp).

I didn’t have a Starbucks today. Sad, but, true. I blame this head & chest cold. On the brighter side, we had lunch at Jersey Mike’s.

I ordered the Mini Turkey & Provolone “Mike’s way” with jalapenos. Everything about this sandwich is good but the juice aka olive oil, red wine vinegar & oregano make it awesome and worth the points.

11 Smartpoints for the sandwich & 4 Smartpoints for 11 Doritos.

I snacked on 1/2 this nectarine while we watched Mindhunters. Have you all seen that movie? It’s so intense and I love that the ending isn’t what you expect.

The Husband picked up my favorite soup for dinner and “cooked” for us to help my cold go away. He is so thoughtful ??

I can admit their nutrition facts are not smart – who would eat half a bowl and how do you determine what’s 1/2 when there are 5 wontons. That being said, the entire bowl is 8 Smartpoints.

I top mine with Hoisin & Sriracha making it a bit like Pho. I had the entire bowl with some watermelon on the side. I could see adding sprouts, cilantro and fresh jalapenos too.

31 Daily Smartpoints, 7K steps

I promise I have a delicious menu planned this week so hopefully my taste buds come back soon.

Be sure to check back tomorrow for a fun July 4th giveaway.

Night all!

That bacon does look good. I wish I lived near a trader joe’s! My only question is how can it have 0 sugar on the nutrition label but list sugar on the ingredients?

I think I read somewhere that if it is under a certain amount then it can show zero. Like the processed foods with hydrogenated oil in the ingredients that show zero trams fats.

      Hi AnnMarie,

My thought is that maybe the amount used is minimal especially when spread over 14 pieces. It does not taste sweet so perhaps less than 1 gram so it’s listed as zero. It takes 4 g to equal 1 teaspoon of sugar. Good question.

      Hi Gail,

I love Jersey Mike’s! They are not low points but the mini is actually a nice size. Their bread is freshly baked in stores too. I bought the soup at Costco but maybe you can find it at Safeway as someone told me they found it there. You could try googling Authentic Asia Shrimp WonTon to see if anything shows up near you? Good luck.
