Flying + Healthy Eating
The lines are long, people are grumpy, and the food is terrible…. You have just arrived at the airport.
Hi! I’m Sabrina of RhodeyGirl Tests, and I am pleased to guest post for Danica today! Flying can be stressful and difficult, but with a bit of planning ahead it can be a very relaxing and healthy experience. Here are a few tips to a healthy flying experience:
- Pack a meal! I always bring breakfast for early morning flights and sandwiches for later flights. Usually that translates to a packed meal when I leave my house and a sandwich or salad from a local café or Whole Foods on the way home.
- Don’t forget snacks! Flights get delayed more often than not. You don’t want to get stuck in the airport with no fruit in sight. I always bring a fruit or a small bag of carrots in addition to an emergency bar and some nuts.
- Bring entertainment! I use flying time to drift into the land of a good book or to get some work done on my laptop. It can be so peaceful to shut off my mobile phone and other distractions and just focus on a good book or browse through a magazine.
I hope these three tips make your next travel experience more enjoyable!

great tips! That’s a lot of what I did when I flew to Georgia over the summer and I don’t think I could have gotten through 3 hours without that!

Good tips! I have always wondered when I see many of the foodie blog ladies taking prepared food on flights but how do you get all that through security? I’m assuming it’s permitted because ya’ll are doing it but with all the baggage checks how do you do it? Can you also take drinks? I assume no because water is not allowed. Tell me more! LOL We are going to Jamaica next month and I would love to pack my own healthy breakfast.

Hi Angie!
I buy water at the airport and usually a hot tea too (if it is a longer flight and I got to the airport early and want some). There is no issue with bringing food on domestic flights, but liquids are another issue. I once brought my yogurt in two 3 oz containers to bring it past the liquid rule, but that was extreme! I am not sure about the rules on international flights but if you were to have a problem it would probably be due to fresh fruits or vegetables, not a bar or anything like that. I hope these tips help!

Just packed my breakfast for my flight today! I had raisin bran, a banana, and almonds–kept me fueled for running to my gate!
