Happy Saturday all! The weather has finally cooled off out here and today actually seems like a Fall Day. As much as I love the sunshine and summer, fall is definitely one of my favorite seasons. There is something about the way the leaves change color, PUMPKIN and the smell of cinnamon along with weather that isn’t too hot or cold that makes fall amazing.
The cooler weather totally made it easier to sleep in until 7 (that’s late for me). I decided this morning was the perfect morning to try the other flavor the folks at Gevalia sent us.
Vanilla Gevalia with a sprinkle of cinnamon to make it fall like. I am not a sweet coffee person at all and that is exactly why I really enjoyed this flavor. You get hints of vanilla (think vanilla bean) without having that super sweet artificial flavor.
Completely delicious ~ straight up!.
I kept waiting for my hunger to kick in as we lounged around this morning reading the paper and debating where to go on our next vacation or camping trip.
It never did so off we went to Starbuck’s before heading out to the Farmer’s Market. I knew I’d be starving if I didn’t get so I went with a Grande Nonfat, Decaf Latte and a banana (SF) – 3 points+
After the market we stocked up on groceries for the week then headed home for lunch a la The Husband.
He made us Pickle-Wiches (his name) lol.
- Sara Lee Honey Wheat Thin Bun topped with mustard
- 2 oz ham
- 1 slice Sargento 2% Swiss
- Pickles!
- Baked Lays
All squished together ~ for those wondering, he says it’s “the squash” that makes the sandwich lol.
(SF) – 7 points+ for the pickle-wich, 2 points+ for the chips
We had super juicy and sweet watermelon for dessert.

I picked up the September 2012 Issue of Food Network Magazine while we were at Sam’s Club stocking up on greens. There are so many good recipes in this issue, including the Heirloom Tomato Salad with BACON Parmesan Crisps on the front.
We saw The Watch with Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn this afternoon ~ it was ok with some funny parts, but, probably better as a DVD.
All day long we had been pondering the salad we were going to make with this Lemon Cucumber we picked up at the Farmer’s Market.
I also bought a “Lemon” Cantaloupe today too ~ maybe I was feeling a bit “lemony” (I was sorta cranky today LOL)
I wish it had a lemon taste, but, it pretty much tastes just like a cucumber.
I think the part that makes it fun is that it is a yellow cucumber.
I boosted the protein in our salads with hard boiled eggs.
Then, layered on a little Virginia Smoked Ham, Turkey and Sargento 2% swiss.
I didn’t realize until I made up our salads that we ate pretty much the same thing at lunch ~ oops.
Topped with 1 Tbsp Cracked Pepper Almond Slices and 2 Tbsp Bolthouse Yogurt Ranch.
(SF + 3 WPA for the dressing/almonds) – 9 points+
Since it it still early, I am sure I’ll have a snack later tonight – most likely some Greek yogurt & fruit.
STATS (12 am – 6 pm)
- 2,062 calories burned
- 6,011 steps taken
- 49+ WPA used, 0 WPA remaining (21 daily points+)
I will be back tomorrow with my thoughts on July’s Simply Filling month, my weigh in recap and one delicious new Weekly Menu.
Night all!

I’ve never heard of a lemon cucumber! It looks pretty!
Your salads look so vibrant and colorful, Danica! You have me craving one right now!

I love to add chips to a sammy, or even a hot dog… although I haven’t done that in a very long time.
Never had a lemon cantalope, but my MIL has grown lemon cucumbers, they look just about the same but smaller.

LOVE your husband’s idea of a sandwich; never tried one and probably won’t…it’s all about the points. Never thought I’d say ‘looking forward to Fall’, but NH has been oppressive. Blow some of your COOL CAL weather this way.

Hello, Question? Do you use bagged salad mix, and if so what kind? Spring mix or Spinich!
DanicasDaily says
Hi Colleen,
I used Organic Mixed Greens or romaine lettuce. I buy the big tub at Costco or Sam’s Club once a week so we can use it for lunches/dinners all week long.
