Happy Memorial Day all! Thanks for the congrats on my FitBit Flex and for sharing your experiences with Fit Bit on yesterday’s post. It is so cool to hear how many of you love your FitBits. I have decided to rename FB….it’s just not catchy to me and I find myself calling FB just “Flex”. I think the name suits him more (yes, it’s a him because umm, Flex is blue).
I have been totally geeking out today over the cool screens that show up on your dashboard every single time you login and sync or when I sync with my phone. I may or may not be guilty of syncing with my phone every like hour or two today just to see LOL.
These are screen shots from my online Dash Board.
The “Big Picture” can be viewed in steps or calories by 15 minute segments. My first goal is 10,000 steps a day and Flex just sent me a message after syncing telling me I am so close don’t stop now!
I earned my very first award ~ 5,000 steps!
I knew I didn’t sleep well last night, but, it’s interesting to see it only takes me 2 minutes to fall asleep and I woke up 10 times. Despite staring at the clock several times last night, I was 95% sleep efficient.
You can look at all of your activity, food, etc. in so many different ways with different reports.
I haven’t ventured to dive into any of the details too much yet, but, I did seamlessly sync up with my fitness pal (fun!) I entered through lunch just to see what it would do.
I can’t wait to explore more and see more!
This morning I was up bright and early (man no hiding that LOL). I did a little prep for the week as well as making Healthy Potato Salad and Quick & Easy Slow Cooker Baked Beans for tonight’s BBQ.
Afterwards, The Husband and I walked up to Starbucks and…..they were closed! It’s ok, we were just looking for a reason to walk somewhere so I could work on my 10,000 steps.
Breakfast….started out like this….
But, my Healthy Egg Roll turned into more of a Healthy Flat Taco…still amazing, still delicious and I totally use my roll to wipe up any sriracha that falls on the plate. (5 points+)
Served up with a few berries and a white nectarine.
Our original plans changed for today so instead, we headed out of town to meet up with one of The Husband’s friends and grabbed salads at Jack’s Urban Eats.
In the mix:
- Mixed Greens
- Grilled Mushrooms
- Orange Segments
- Pepperoncini’s
- 2 Tbsp. Chickpea/Kidney Beans (1 points+)
- 1 Tbsp. Dried Cranberries (1 points+)
- 1 Tbsp. chopped walnuts (1 points+)
- 3 oz grilled chicken (3 points+)
- Balsamic Vinaigrette on the side – fork dipped (2 points+)
We spent the afternoon relaxing watching movies. I snacked on 2 Tbsp. sunflower seeds with a light string cheese (3 points+).
Since I prepped all the sides this morning, dinner came together in minutes. I picked up the Cheesy Cheddar Dogs at Trader Joe’s partly because I wanted to try them….and partly for the buns I found.
Fun Fact About Me ~ When I was growing up, my mom could put cheese on anything and I’d eat it. I am pretty sure it’s how she tricked me into like vegetables so much
4 points+ each, but, more importantly, you can recognize every single ingredient ~ they are uncured and with ZERO nitrates.
Real reason #2 ~ King’s Hawaiian Sweet Bread now comes as Hot Dog Buns!
I am absolutely in love with Hawaiian bread…it’s super soft, sweet and delicious when paired with salty things. 3 points+ a roll and I’d venture to say ~ worth it!
So….I couldn’t really decide what I wanted to eat tonight….when that happens, I just make “small bites” and try it all!
I had 1/4 of a hot dog (2 points+) ~ I loved the bun & dog, but, didn’t taste any cheese at all.
I had planned originally on eating an entire pork chop, but, knew I could never finish it.
So….I cut a small 1.25 oz. bite (1 points+)
Served up with two types of beans ~ 1/4 cup Quick & Easy Slow Cooker Beans, 2 points+
and a handful of sugar snap peas (kinda like beans)
1/3 cup Healthy Potato Salad, 1 points+
The best kind of Small Bites ~ Too bad I was too full to eat my corn too. Everything was so tasty, I cannot wait to have leftovers tomorrow and make up a sampler plate.
- STATS: 22 Daily Points+, 0 WPA used, 35 WPA remaining
- FB ~ see above for my recap.
Night all!

Hi Danica,
Can you let us know if the fitbit picks up activity like biking/spinning? or does it just pick up steps?
Thanks!

I *love* my Fitbit! I’ve been wearing one for a couple of years now. I didn’t think I would be interested in the Flex since it doesn’t have a display on the actual device, but after reading a few reviews, I’m thinking I might actually like it after all. If you want to connect as friends on the Fitbit site, here’s the link to my profile: http://www.fitbit.com/user/222BVG

I think I need to get a FitBit. Everyone who has one LOVES them.
Hawaiian Bread is AWESOME. My brother’s restaurant makes french toast with it, topped with honey and walnuts and it is TO DIE FOR.

I’m not sure about the new FB bracelet since I wear lots of jewelry lol I do wear a regular fitbit AND a WW AL (don’t ask me why I’m still using the AL)…I do love my fitbit! OMG I can’t wait until our TJ’s opens! Now all I need is a Wegmans and I’ll be in grocery shopping heaven 🙂 Weighed in this morning and for the month of May so far, I’m up 0.4 which was a welcome surprise for me, since I’ve been on a eating/drinking out binge…always happens during NBA playoffs… GO HEAT!!!

How do you translate what you learn from the Fitbit into AP? The only option there seems to be is to put in how long you worked out and the amount of effort you put in and it translates that into points or there are some preselected activities that also calculate based on time. How do you translate steps into AP?

I have not heard of the FB bracelet until you talked about it last night. All the different things that it shows, i.e., how many times you wake up at night, is amazing but the price is out of my league – maybe a birthday present.
When you, or your husband, grill pork chops, how long do you grill them and do you marinate them or put any type of rub on them? We are just starting to experiment with the grill. My husband grills a wonderful streak, but the pork chops and chicken breasts were a disaster. Maybe your husband can do a “grilling 101” someday without giving away any of his secrets.

Congrats on the Flex. I have been reading your blog for some time and really enjoy it but for some reason I never post comments. I guess that makes me a lurker 🙂 But I would love to be friends on Fitbit. Here is my profile:

Getting 10,000 steps a day is difficult when you are a desk worker so I have started walking 30 minutes at lunch and that ensures I get my 10,000 in every day. Happy walking!

I just saw it on Ebay for $45.
