Happy 40th Earth Day All!
I hope you all are having a FANTASTIC day and doing a few things to be greener. I wanted to kick off my Earth Day Giveaways with something fun, something a little different…something that is SO COOL!
Have you all ever heard of Furochic’s?
Last year on Earth Day, I was introduced to Furochic’s by LA FUJI MAMA and completely fell IN LOVE with them! Furochic, is a line of reusable fabric gift wrap inspired by furoshiki, designed by Jenn Playford of Jenny Wren Paperie.
I love the idea of reducing our waste caused by disposable packaging by using a reusable cloth. If you’ve never tried a wrapping cloth, you should! The possibilities and uses are endless
Wrapping a gift has never been so easy, eco-friendly and beautiful! Furochic™, printed with Jenn’s original patterns, is inspired by furoshiki, the traditional Japanese wrapping cloth. Furochic™ is part of the gift; it can be reused to wrap another gift or kept and treasured. Reduce waste and have fun! No scissors or tape required.
Jenn has created a bunch of videos on her site to help give you all ideas on how to use your Furochic ~ Click HERE to check them.
For those looking for more FUN ideas, She has a book out called Wrapogami that features 25 different wrapping techniques, ideas for reusing your wraps, tips for choosing or making a wrap, a history of Furochic and furoshiki, and gift tips to make your gifts special.

To be more earth-friendly I am trying to use less plastic water bottles and instead use a reusable bottle!
LOOOVE THESE! Ohhh the Martha Stewart in me is trying to burst out! I would like to say “I’m soooo environmentally friendly – there’s nothing else I could do!” haha but who am I kidding? EVERYONE could take their eco practices another step further. I am looking forward to COMPOSTING once we move at the end of June!!
i have started using reusable grocery bags and water bottles

I will continue to bike to and from work, eat locally and organically and use my resuseable shopping bags 🙂
I am going to switch over completely to reusable grocery bags (I’m currently doing 50/50 with reusable & plastic). No excuses anymore!
tweeted 🙂
I use cloth grocery bags, a canteen, and I never shower! kidding on the last part, but I love the enviornment, and these are too cute! 🙂
I am ditching bottled water for tap. I’m also keeping windows open until I absolutely have to turn on the AC.
I bought a Brita pitcher and reuse my water bottles instead of buying case after case of bottled water!
+ Tweeted 🙂
i am going to recycle more papers!
Very cool…especially because I stink at wrapping gifts! lol
This year I am going to buy more re-usable bags and USE them when I go shopping! 🙂 yyeeaahhh! 🙂
Tweet sent! 🙂
these are absolutely ADORABLE! i try to be semi *green* on a daily basis (unplugging my appliances when not in use, turning off the sink while brushing my teeth, using reusable tote bags for the grocery store, etc.) but i still have a looooong way to go! in honor of earth day, i decided that i’m going to plant a garden in my backyard. everything helps, right?
p.s. danica, i started reading your blog about 2 weeks ago and i think you’re FABULOUS! i absolutely love reading your blog and seeing your newest science experiments. no one else understands my nut butter, wafflewich, greek yogurt, sparkly water, and starbucks addiction quite like you! i think it’s fate. now, if only there were a trader joe’s in florida. ahh my life would be complete!
We are doing many things right already but we do still buy bottled water! I know it is so bad and I feel guilty. I did go buy reusable water bottles and thermal mugs for coffee. That is a start.
I am going to start taking my own reusable shopping bags to the store. I always tell myself I will and I never do. It’s time now! I will do it!!!
We are recycling, and we have installed a motion-sensing light bulb in our basement (to not waste electricity by forgetting to turn the light off).
Thank you for the giveaway – these look really cool. 🙂

i’ve switched over to using reusable bottle.
its still kind of awkward, but i’ll have to get used to it :]
I use (and plan to continue to use) empty plastic packaging from bread loaves and other foods to wrap up my sandwiches and snacks!

My earth day has reminded me that I didn’t buy all those reusable bags just to forget them when I go shopping. My one small step was to get them out of my house and into my car. This may seem little, but for me it was becoming a big issue.
Being more earth friendly is something that I’m trying to work on everyday. Throughout this year I’m going to try to carry reuseable bags with me whenever I go shopping. Not only do I hate those plastic bags, but they hold nothing in comparison to the reuseable cloth bags.
To be more earth friendly this year, I’m going to try to use the Bart more often and to use more reusable bags!
I am trying to completely eliminate zip lock bags. I’ve been loading up on tupperware whenever it’s on sale so I’m down to using about 1 bag a week!

love this giveaway: THANKS! we are trying our hand at gardening this summer. sooo… wish us luck!
Yay, a giveaway celebrating earth day. I have one too, check out paulawannacracker.blogspot.com. What am I doing to be good to the earth? This is my second year having a garden. We’ve planted just about everything I need (cilantro, peppers, tomatoes, onions, corn, beans, melons). I attended Michael Pollan’s author of Food Rules yesterday and I am thinking differently about processed foods and the amount of oil it takes to produce them.
This is such a cool idea to GO GREEN! 🙂
Thanks for the giveaway!
This year, I’m going to try my best to use LESS plastic containers (plastic baggies) and use more items like the SNACKTAXIs I’m giving away and reuseable containers for packing lunches!
Don’t have TWitter, but I did link back here:

I am going to stop using plastic water bottles and ziplock bags! Glass tupperware only for me!
I plan to start using my fabric grocery bags more often and I’ve already traded in my disposable water cups for a big ole reusable water bottle!
I am going to try to grow more of my own vegetables!
To be more Earth Friendly this year, I plan to carpool as often as possible.
I blogged about your giveaway on my blog.
Feel free to enter my Yoplait Greek Yogurt giveaway too!
I strive to eat more organically 🙂
I plan to use more unharmful cleaners such as vinegar and water!
OMG, I’ve never heard of this but totally love the idea! I have reusable shopping bags but always leave them at home so I am making sure to keep a couple in my car for trips to the store!
I linked ya back 🙂
What a cook giveaway! It’s been a year since I moved to Germany and living with the locals has taught me a lot about what I can do to be more green. For starters, we have mandatory recycling every other week, which I now participate in regularly. It includes plastics, metals, glass and paper. I also have begun composting in my yard since seeing my neighbor do the same. I shop only with reusable totes because you have to pay extra for plastic bags here. I even purchased biodegradable doggy poo bags so my little guy can be eco-friendly, too!
It’s been interesting seeing how the Germans do things and I have to say that when it comes to everyday, sustainable green living, they are on the right path!
Thanks!!
Katy
This year I want to continut to walk or ride my bike instead of driving everywhere! Also I need to stop using plastic baggies, plastic grocery bags, and plastic water bottles!
I love this product! I have recently switched over to all environmentally friendly cleaning supplies and I am trying to get my office to switch as well.
