How did you measure success today?

August 13, 2012 by DanicasDaily 14 Comments

Happy Monday all! Today I was back on the Simply Filling Track with some delicious clean eats.  As I pondered my day on my drive home, I realized that I could actually measure my day by looking at how all the “MINI Successes” stacked up.

I made sure I got up early and hopped on the treadmill for a 30 minute jog/walk.  Then, I jogged further than I have to date and used 5 min jog, 3 min walk intervals sprinting to the finish ~ Success!

Even though I was rushing out the door, I still decided it was worth it to stop for a Latte and banana at Starbucks ~ you know, for breakfast.  Taking time for breakfast = Success! (SF) – 3 points+

I was starving by the time I arrived at work but instead of going to the café where I could’ve had them make anything for me, I grabbed a snack ~ watermelon & a light string cheese (SF) – 1 points+.

I went to lunch with one of my friends today to catch up on life.  We ended up at Crepeville.  All I can say is WOW ~ have you all ever seen a menu with so much on it?!

IMG_0898

I could’ve gotten anything from a Nutella Peanut Butter Banana Crepe to pasta to some pretty delicious sounding sandwiches.

BUT, what I wanted more was to choose something healthy that was close to Simply Filling.

I actually went to a Crepe Place and didn’t order a Crepe even when my friend got one togo for dessert and offered to get me one too ~ Success!

Despite being 107 degrees today, I went with their 1/2 Salad and Soup Combo.

Can you believe this is only half a Caprese Salad?! I am pretty sure I fell in love with this place when I saw this salad.

Mixed greens tossed with balsamic vinegar and olive oil topped with fresh mozzarella, tomatoes
and fresh basil.

(SF + 3 WPA for the cheese) ~ oil & balsamic are both 100% Simply Filling! 5 points+

IMG_0900

Some of the best Split Pea Soup I’ve ever had and 100% Simply Filling. 4 points+.  For the record, I gave that Rosemary Foccacia Bread away with the butter ~ I did it before I could think about it ~ SUCCESS!

IMG_0907

Mid afternoon I stared down the candy bowl that someone restocked by my desk, then, snacked on a Pluot and Light String Cheese before I headed over to Trader Joe’s to stock up on a few things for the week. (SF) – 1 points+ SUCCESS!

IMG_0913

The Husband called on my way home to say I haven’t had Asian food in awhile so to pick one ~ Panda Express or the Thai Place near us…..for any of you who know me, I pretty much NEVER say no to all types of Asian food.

We went out last night so I knew I should be good tonight.  I was tired and the thought of not having to cook was incredibly tempting…..plus, all those voices in my head telling me to just go out.

As much as I was tempted to say yes, let’s go out ~ I didn’t.  I came home and whipped up BBQ Turkey Burgers with all the fixin’s with corn ~ SUCCESS! (SF) – 10 points+

STATS (12 am – 930pm)

  • 2,709 calories burned
  • 9,416 steps taken
  • 3 WPA used, 13 WPA remaining (24 daily points+)

Q’s

What is one MINI Success you had today?

It’s pretty amazing if you sit back and think about all the successes you have each day…Not every success shows on the scale, but, every single MINI success counts!

Night all!

I wasn’t able to go to the gym yesterday, but I try to sweat for at least 30 minutes per day. On “no gym days” I will usually break out my Jillian Michaels kettlebell DVD. I work from home and I wasn’t able to do it in the am or afternoon since I had to run out To a clients house or to a meeting, but I told myself I would do it when I came home that evening. After a crazy busy day, I was done with work at 7:45pm. I was tempted to just say screw Jillian and eat the tostadas my husband made and watch The Real Housewives of NYC. BUT, before I walked into the house I grabbed my gym shoes and changed into my workout gear and cranked through the 30 minute DVD. I was so proud that I was honest with myself and kept my word. This is something that wouldn’t have happened 2 months ago. Huge success for me!

I measured it yesterday by going to a WW meeting. I had gone on Saturday morning (my normal meeting) but I couldn’t stay for the meeting part. I only weighed in. I also had dinner with my mom but brought home half of it and asked for a double entry salad to begin. And…I am up at 6:30 (Tuesday morning) to go swim and I HATE to swim!

Congratulations on your successes! I think reading this entry today helped me realize that even though the scale hasn’t moved in about 2 weeks (haven’t lost but haven’t gained!) I HAVE had successes in what I eat and my exercise. Thank you for posting this because I needed some motivation to just keep on swimming 🙂 I have been searching EVERYWHERE for a pluot…they look so good!

Congrats on all your mini successes today! I really think weight loss is more about consistency and persistence than anything else. I need to remember that for myself right now!

Thanks for the inspirational post. The girlfriend I started the program with was not doing well and dropped out all together. Then, Weight Watchers, switched all the leaders in my area to new locations. As hard as I tried, I do not like the new leader and my old one is now too far away. I may try another location because I like going in Saturday mornings. Needless to say I have been using these excuses to slack off and need to get back on track!

My mini success for Monday: I came home from work, changed and went to Zumba, even though I knew I would be rushed to make it to my Board meeting later. But it was definitely worth it. Love Zumba!

      Hi Rose,

I use a Body Media Device (BM) similar to a Body Bugg to monitor and track my steps/calories burned each day. Here is a link that you can find out more about it.

I will be doing a review/comparison of Body Media, Body Bugg and Active Link soon.

I had a success today. I talked my kids into walking the High Line with me in NYC. They head back to college soon so we were able to walk and talk. Two birds…..
