Happy Sunday all! You all had us both cracking up with your Magic Mike comments on yesterday’s post. I am pretty sure I will not “torture” him into going with me, but, it is fun to tease him and see his response to what you all said about the men who did go to see it.
This morning I couldn’t wait to go weigh in. I can honestly say it’s been a pretty long time since I felt like I earned it and knew that the scale was going to show my efforts.
It definitely did ~ I was down 4 lbs today!!!! Thanks to all of you for the congrats you sent me all day long ~ you all should know you inspire me with all your successes each and every day too!
I have a confession to make ~ I totally LOVE Grits, but, I rarely get them since they are not really a big thing in California (not sure why?! lol).
I actually never knew they were made from hominy but now I think that makes grits even cooler.
100% Simply Filling
Drizzled with 1 tsp Pure Maple Syrup (0 WPA for 1 tsp ~ I totally looked up the stats before adding it). I actually can eat my grits plain any day.
I ended up trading in my nectarine for this plate of fruit at my Weight Watchers meeting.
Before heading out to spend the afternoon walking around the Sacramento Antique Fair, The Husband bribed me with a Starbuck’s.
Grande Nonfat Decaf Latte with caramel drizzled on top (0 WPA for the drizzle) and Simply Filling.
He also let me pick lunch, but, highly recommended I pick sushi at my favorite place ~ Mikuni’s! I had zero complaints about his choice
We started with Edamame which is a fantastic high protein, Simply Filling snack that only takes about 5 minutes to make if you need snack ideas.
For some reason, even when it’s 100+ degrees outside, I still have to have HOT green tea and Miso Soup with my sushi.
Simple Side Salad with a sesame ginger dressing (2 WPA)
I knew exactly what roll I wanted ~ The INCREDIBLE ROLL! I LOVE any place that will put 2 lines of Sriracha down for dipping!
I count this roll just like a Tempura Shrimp Roll at 10 points+ towards my WPA.
Spicy tuna, panko shrimp, tuna, white tuna, avocado, sauce, torched, masago and onion
We both were feeling pretty lazy so I am glad we still had leftover pasta we just reheated for dinner.
I am pretty content now so I do not anticipate eating anything else as much as the watermelon and bananas for Banana Ice Cream are calling my name.
12 WPA used, 37 WPA Remaining (29 daily points+)
HERE IS WHAT IS ON THE MENU THIS WEEK:
It’s kind of a short week since we will be eating dinner out on Thursday & head out of town Friday night. Can you all tell The Husband picked this week’s menu?
- Bacon Cheeseburgers, Kale Chips
- BBQ Pork Ribs, grilled corn, parmesan zucchini
- Carne Asada Tacos or Salads
- Breakfasts may include some Homemade Simply Filling Sausage ~ I’ve made two types.
- Lunches: Creamy Chicken, Carrot, Raisin Salad over mixed greens (it’s good, I promise!) I may also make this Weight Watchers Slow Cooker Chicken Tikka Masala over brown rice.
Q’s
What’s on your menu this week? I have so many ideas, so little time lol….
Night all!

Ok….grits. I love them, too! BUT, let me tell you, (I’m from Nashville, TN, southern girl) I always tried to sweeten my grits. I always added sugar and butter and stuff. One day I was doing that, and whoever it was said “You add salt and pepper to grits, not sugar and sweet stuff!” It was like I could NEVER get my grits sweet enough, so I tried the salt and pepper thing and loved it! Not saying you have to change your gritty habits. LOL Just seeing your pic reminded me of the day I learned to eat salty grits over sweet. Haha! 🙂 CONGRATS ON THAT LOSS! Awesome, and I know you were flying high all day after that!
Robyn @ Blueberries and Oats says
Huge congratulations, Danica!
I can’t say I’ve really hard grits..mainly because I don’t get what you really can top them with. Butter and sugar just doesn’t sound appealing to me.
Phyllis says
Congrats! So inspired to try the simply filling – you always give such great examples and ideas for food choices it makes it so much easier to figure out how easy it is to do the simply filling. And the results just speak for themselves! Way to go!
Kyra says
Congrats on the loss this week!! Keep up the great work!
Carbzilla says
Whoohoo! I would have screamed and jumped up and down.
This really shows you have portion control down, Girl, and your body is LOVING you right now. Way to go!
(I’m back to counting PP+ tomorrow. Scale’s only been going up. Boo.)
Reta says
I’m right there with you on the grits. In fact savory cheese grits with shrimp is one of my favorite foods! If you are ever in south carolina (Columbia or Charleston) you have got to try them…they have the best in my opinion. Way to go on the loss! Thanks for sharing your simply filling ideas too…I have never done it before, it always seemed daunting to me.

Congratulations on your weight loss…..you ROCK!!!! Keep up the great job. I am a life time member of WW and have return to get rid of the weight that I gained over the winter. I have loss 22. 5 pounds so far and I am about 2.6 pounds from my goal weight… Weigh in is tomorrow nite. Wish me luck!!!!

I’m from Nashville, too, and never eat grits with sweetener. Just a small pat of butter, salt and pepper is the typical way Southerners eat them. I can leave off the butter, but a little makes them so delicious. They’re usually eaten for breakfast but, then, shrimp and cheese grits are another story… divine.
Kati S. says
Another Southern girl here and grits are practically a religion in the South! I have never tried them sweetened, but like the previous posters, I love mine with a bit of butter and plenty of salt and pepper. I also love the breakfast in a bowl concept: Grits, scrambled eggs, and chopped sausage all mixed together. Cheese is optional.

Congratulations 🙂 That must feel great! Keep up the awesome work!

Cngratulations, Danica! You have inspired me, once again!! I’ve never tried Simply Filling, but need a boost to lose the last 10 lbs. ( It was only 2 lbs, but I just came back from vacation, where I ate my way through Spain, France, and Italy 🙂 Just couldn’t be there without eatng the pizza and gelato! Need I say more? Now, I’m focused and ready to get serious again. It was so refreshing to come back home, and read your plan for July, so I’m going to join you, and hope I’m just as successful. I love that you take the plain Simply Filling food list, and come up with such yummy menus and recipes. You seriously need to write a book of menu/recipes for Simply Filling. This, for me, is the most difficult plan to follow. Thanks for all your suggestions and helpful hints. You make WW so fun and doable!
Annie says
Try grits savory! Butter and salt and pepper = Southern way. Sweet stuff = Yankees. 🙂
Marcia says
Whoohoo! I still read your blog daily and I’m so happy for your 4 pound loss! Since retirement in Nov, I’ve lost an additional 10 pounds and feel really fit. Nothing like having nothing to do except take care you yourself daily. You go girl.
Tamara says
Ooh, I love grits, too. Good idea! I like them sweet or savory. Or both! (Sausage and syrup!) I’ve never actually had whole hominy but I really want to try it.
Congrats on the awesome WI! That’s incredibly inspiring… I may just have to take the plunge on Simply Filling here soon. 🙂
Donovan (Don) Craig says
Congrats on the weight loss. I don’t know how you can be losing eating pasta, pork ribs, cheese burgers, and carne asada. I stick mostly to turkey and chicken and lots of veggies and fruit. I began with WW last September and have lost 41 pounds, but am hoping for another 30 pounds this year. Good luck to you. If it works, I’m happy for you.
Yvonne says
You inspired me to start Simply Filling last Friday (7/6). I weigh in on Thursday. I hope, I’m as sucessful as YOU. Thanks!!!
Carrie says
Congrats, Danica on the loss! I love using simply filling because I think it just takes the stress out and helps me to eat better anyway! You know you are eating well if it’s on the power foods list, and who doesn’t need more power foods in their life?! Keep it up!! You go girl!
Lynette says
Love me some grits! You picture inspired me to go buy some! Congrats on your loss this week, Danica! You’re a ROCK STAR! Also, thank you for the protien pancake recipe! YUMMMMMM…my new favorite thing to eat. My skinny boy loved it too, although I had to feed him like 64 points + worth (ok, that’s an exageration, but he did eat a BUNCH!). you also inspired me to buy a Magic Bullet. Waiting for it to come in the mail. SUPER PUMPED to use it! HAve a GREAT week. Remember, I’m here when you’re ready for a jog!

Danica,

I really appreciate what you’re doing on this site. Thank you for the menu ideas and for the motivation spark and inspiration. Please keep doing what you’re doing!

I have to agree with the rest of the Southerners here. MOST of us eat them with butter/salt/pepper. HOWEVER, I love, love, love grape or strawberry jelly in mine LOL. Yes, I’m an oddball.
Congrats on the four pounds!!!
Barb K says
Wow! You rock! Congratulations on your SV. Not sure I could do that plan. I have never tried grits but they are everywhere when we vacation in Myrtle Beach.
Beth @ Kitchen Minions says
I love grits too! I never had them sweet though, I always go for salt and pepper and dried chives. Congrats on the 4 pounds!

Way to go!!! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dotty says
congrats on the loss. I was afraid to attempt that while on vacation. I did; however, drop 1.8lbs while vacationing with my daughter, son in law and grandson at Disneyland. I was not able to weigh in the first week so it was like 1 1/2 weeks. 2nd week was in Bend, OR so will see how weigh in goes this Thursday. Do you think if a person does the simply filling, that the first week would be a bigger drop than the next because of the change in the program? I am just not sure of how to use Simply Filling. What does WPA stand for?
Again Congrats on the great job. You are truly an inspiration.
Dotty
DanicasDaily says
HI Dotty,
Yes, I do think that the first week will be a bigger loss than other weeks in most cases because of the change. But, sometimes that is a good way to mix things up.
WPA stands for Weekly Points Allowance aka flex points – they are the extra points you can use on top of your daily points+ target when counting or for non-simply filling foods each week.

Awesome job on 4 lbs….I am sure you are still flying high! You really are an amazing inspiration for all of us!

Yummy…I LOVE Grits, but do not have them too often because I like a huge bowl with 2 over easy runny eggs, omg….so good.
I am a menu planner too….
Monday: Asian Lettuce Wraps (out of a WW cookbook…LOVE THEM)
Tuesday: Hamburgers and fries (may take a page out of Ronis (greenlitebites) book and use lettuce leaves instead of a bun.
Wednesday: Chicken, baked potato, veg
Thursday: Taco Salad
Friday: Homemade Pizza
The weekend is still up in the air…

I love grits too. A restaurant in W. LA just started serving stone ground grits with their breakfasts instead of potatoes( if you want). We were there on Saturday, I got a salad for lunch, but this guy next to me got breakfast with grits and they looked so good. Trader Joe’s is now selling stone ground grits.

i have never tried the simply filling plan and am afraid to do so. I know what it feels like to eat JUST ENOUGH, but still nervous. I have lived w/points for so long. Have gained 7 lbs already and summer is NOT over. It’s been a struggle, mostly due to entertaining. I have to do something now before it gets out of control. I could easily do the simply filling because i am not really a sweet/greasy food lover my problem is quantity which is why im nervous about the simply filling.
