Treadmill Games

March 31, 2010 by DanicasDaily 18 Comments

Happy Hump Day all!  Do you ever play games with yourself on the treadmill to make the time fly by?  When I run outside time flies by, I don’t think to look at my Garmin until about .25-.50 of a mile.  However, on the treadmill, I pretty much look after like .10 of a mile! LOL.  I pretty much need ALL the distractions I can think of on the treadmill ~ the radio, the TV, water, a towel…and if there was anything else I could think of, I am sure I’d use it too.

Sometimes I have a scheduled, planned workout ~ High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), a certain distance or intervals and sometimes, I play TREADMILL GAMES like today.  I will randomly change the speed and grade every 30-60 seconds.  I let the MUSIC drive my workout.  On fast songs I’ll crank it up to 6.0 or 7.0 mph and go up or down .1 each minute or I’ll do the same with grades keeping a steady pace.  It really helps to play this game in my mind because I am so focused on just getting to the end of the minute, not how long I am on the treadmill.  Make sense?? 🙂

I was feeling a little flustered after my Weight Watcher Meeting today because I gained .2 lbs when my scale said ALL WEEK I was down 2 lbs.  I was tempted to sit on the couch with cheesy TV and pout, but, I asked myself what would make me feel better? I took my aggression to the treadmill and spent a nice 44 minutes playing treadmill games.  It made me feel AWESOME.

Today’s eats were ALL about eating what I craved.  I woke up craving Whole Wheat Sour Dough with my Crunchy Nut Barn Almond Butter. (4 pts)

IMG_1873

I almost always crave fruit in the AM and it helps me check off those little fruit/veggie boxes ~ a banana & 2 cuties (2 pts).

IMG_1878

I am pretty sure you all know I can’t STOP craving Black Pepper Triscuits & Alouette Savory Vegetable Cheese (4 pts).

IMG_1883

I have been CRAVING sushi for like 2 months now! I decided to satisfy that craving today with a FANTASTIC Hawaiian Roll ~ Ahi Tuna, Cucumbers, AVOCADO, Tobiko, Spicy Wasabi and Spicy Srirachi!  I downed 9 out of the 12 pieces (in like 2.8 seconds!) so I could save room (5 pts)

IMG_1891

For craving #2 ~ AVOCADO spring rolls!  I had one of these babies ~ cucumbers, celery, pickled ginger, romaine, lettuce, AVOCADO, wrapped in a rice paper.  I LOVE the spicy chili sauce they give you for dipping them in. (2 pts for 1/2)

IMG_1895

I picked up the cupcakes for our work party at Sift Cupcakery ~ how cute is the street they are on….Main Street in Downtown Napa, Ca.

IMG_1884

I LOVE these little pink chairs & yellow table.

IMG_1885

They made up a HUGE assortment of cupcakes for our party x’s 4!

IMG_1887

All of them have super cute names!

IMG_1900

I am super proud of myself because I resisted devouring the ENTIRE cupcake.  I cut it in 1/2 and saved the other half for my better half ~ The Husband!!! I knew he would LOVE it and I wanted to share.  I think this might be my new favorite flavor over the snickerdoodle!

IMG_1899

Do you all remember how I told you my meal plan was subject to change?  Well, tonight it changed :D  I couldn’t resist making up stuff to make Spicy BBQ Chicken Quesadillas when I was at Trader Joe’s.

IMG_1905

I am not sure I really get the title of this Guacamole ~ Avocado’s Number Guacamole ~ what does that mean?! LOL I think they missed the #1…just sayin’

IMG_1908

FANTASTIC ingredient list – nothing funky added.  Probably my favorite premade guacamole.

IMG_1907

The Smoky BBQ Chicken Stats ~ the chicken is pre-cooked and 3 pts a serving – not bad!

IMG_1910

To make sure I got a true portion, I used my Eat Right Pro Precision Scale to measure out 151 grams.

IMG_1916

My new FAVORITE cheese ~ 4 types of cheeses!!!

IMG_1912

I could’ve gotten healthy low-carb tortillas, but, sometimes you just want a REAL flour tortilla.  I LOVE the stats on these (2 pts!)

IMG_1913

I turned the broiler on and assembled my tostada starting with my tortilla, BBQ chicken (heated for 45 seconds), tomato & cilantro.

IMG_1918

Then, I measured out 29 g of cheese.

IMG_1919

Broiled for 2 minutes ~ it was so HOT the tortilla curled up :D!

IMG_1921

Topped with a dallop of Avocado’s Number Guacamole! (8 pts)

IMG_1929

Side salad with more Guacamole! (1 pt)

IMG_1923

I used one of my favorite dressings.  It’s perfectly balanced with a nice lime flavor that is slightly sweet and not too tart.

IMG_1924

I am pretty sure I’ve reviewed this before, but thought I’d share again.

I think the name of the avocado brand is a play on “avogadros number” which is the number of molecules (6.02214X10^23) in one mole of a gas.

I think it’s awesome that you got some of your emotions out on the treadmill! I also play little games like that to help make running on the treadmill a tad more interesting. 🙂

I always have to play games like that on the treadmill. The treadmill is not my friend. LOL Glad you took your aggressions there instead of the couch. And you have been getting in your workouts and eating healthily so that is all you can do. Be happy with how you are taking care of yourself. You are beautiful!

I need to be extremely distracted on the treadmill to make the time go by faster but when I run outside there is so much going on that I don’t need distractions. I need music, tv, other people at the gym to people watch, changing speeds and inclines to keep me sane on the treadmill 🙂

    Btw, love those cupcakes!

There’s a restaurant in my town called Avogadro’s Number which is a spin of off the Avogadro constant.

I googled it and got: “Perrin originally proposed the name “Avogadro’s number” (N) to refer to the number of molecules in one gram-molecule of oxygen (exactly 32 grams of oxygen, according to the definitions of the period),[5] and this term is still widely used, especially in introductory works.[9] ”

Not the best pun for guacamole though!!

Love those quesadillas, thx for the recipe. Oh and the cupcakes? WOW.

What a great idea to work out your frustrations with exercise instead of food!

Haha, I do the SAME thing with the treadmill. I start high and tick it down 0.1 every minute too! Then I start all over again. It seriously makes the time go by sooo much faster. I don’t have a watch and I hardly run with an ipod so I don’t have track of time or distance when i run outside. I just go. I love coming home and mapping out how far I ran. Its always more than expected 🙂
