Happy Saturday all! I definitely think breakfast is my favorite meal because for ONLY 6 points+, I can have an insanely delicious and HUGE Meal.
Today, it all started out with an “Eggwich” for 5 points+….
Then, The Husband mentioned bacon on his…..so, I cooked up a few slices of Trader Joe’s Turkey Peppered Turkey Bacon in the microwave.
It’s really easy to make in your microwave. Place 2 paper towels on a plate, top with your slices of turkey bacon, top with another paper towel and cook, about 1 minute per slice, give/take.
GUESS WHAT I learned this morning?! You can actually have THREE pieces for only 1 points+ ~ AWESOME!!! Why have 2 when you can have 3 for the same points+ value
We split an orange for our “juice” to round out breakfast. I like having the actual fruit over the juice because it’s 0 points+, is more filling and it gives me the same satisfaction as juice.
After breakfast we were off to the Home and Garden Show. We stopped for Dirty Lattes for the road ~ Grand, Nonfat, Decaf, 1 Pump Mocha Latte (4 points+).
The Husband LOVES the Home & Garden show because of all the house ideas he gets for things he wants to do for our whole house remodel.
I like going for all the COOL GADGETS and FUN Kitchen Stuff I can get. I definitely scored more fun things last year, but I couldn’t resist getting a few of my fav’s.
And a few new FUN things ~ I actually sampled the Sweet & Smoky Sauce and White Balsamic with Pear Vinegar. I cannot wait to use everything!
Especially this pasta. I LOVE that they actually INFUSED the actual vegetables into their pastas. I was really tempted to buy more pasta (they had sweet potato & wild mushroom), but, The Husband looked at me like I was a little crazy
After walking around for 5 hours, we finally stopped for lunch at 3 pm at Jack’s Urban Eats ~ The BEST SALAD place ever……My salad today rocked and I honestly think that GRAPES might be my favorite new addition to salads. I LOVE their sweet crunch.
My 5 a day in one BOWL, was 11 points+ and included:
* Mixed Greens
* Dried Cranberries
* Candied Walnuts
* Pickled Red Onions
* GRAPES!!!
* Cherry Tomatoes
* Kidney/Garbanzo Beans
* Topped with Grilled Chicken Breast & Homemade Honey Balsamic Vinaigrette
I have to admit I stole & savored FIVE (yes, I totally counted) of The Husband’s Urban Fries. These fries are PHENOMENAL ~ I think it’s the spicy chili oil they use. (3 points+)
The Husband declared he was cooking dinner for us when we got home ~ I LOVE it when he does that. But, really, it was because we pretty much were not having a “real” dinner since we had a late lunch.
I have to say, he whips up a pretty mean bowl of buttered noodles though (7 points+)
Tomorrow is weigh in and my week hasn’t been stellar. I know that I have earned whatever the scale says so I am ok with that. I have enjoyed all the dining out and visiting with everyone, but, I am honestly ready to get back in the kitchen.
I have an AWESOME meal plan lined up for this week and will be posting it for you all tomorrow. Oh and there is a fun giveaways I have lined up for you all this week too!
Q’s
What is your favorite thing to add to salads?
I LOVE adding nuts (sweet or savory) along with sweet fruits (dried or fresh). I ALWAYS add candied walnuts and dried cranberries to my Jack’s salads, but, I have a feeling GRAPES might be my new favorite thing!
Night all!

Grapes add a great crunch to salads! I love them too. Bell peppers, avocado, and alfalfa sprouts are some of my go-to ingredients for a nice salad.

I add grapes to my salad and sometimes add pears or oranges. I love citrus in my salads – just adds a different “something” to it. Good luck at weigh in

I’m so glad you posted how you cook your bacon. It always looks so good. This morning I woke up actually meaning to ask you how you cooked it since I’m going to TJs today and buying lots of it. Thanks!

I micro my bacon all the time! It’s the best way to get crunchy, non-greasy bacon!
I would have had a field day at the Home and Garden show! I admire your restraint in only getting those few items! Those marinades sound amazing 🙂
Carrie says
Adding grapes and chopped apple to salads gives them that sweet crunch.
When I go to TJ’s now I grab 2-3 packages of peppered turkey bacon, love that stuff. I might have a bacon hoarding problem!!
Good luck at weigh in!

I’ve been in love with the Peppered Turkey Bacon ever since you mentioned here on your site.
The salad you had for lunch looked so YUM!
I love adding cranberries, and in the summer strawberries to my salads. I love grapes also and when chicken is thrown in with the grapes I love the combo.
But my latest thing I have been really into is adding salsa to my salad as a topping.. yummy , 0 points . My mom had a really good mango salsa and I put some on my salad ,wow is all I can say!

I’ve gotta pick up some of that peppered bacon! I love that you can cook it in the microwave.
I’m such a food nerd! I can’t wait to see what your meal plan is this week. Normally I do all my planning and shopping (and most prepping) on Sunday’s, but B is heading out on a business trip from Monday to Tuesday so I’m probably gonna do a ‘less exciting’ first couple of dinners this week.
I am LOVING big salad these days… phases. Gotta love ’em. My favorite thing to add to my pile-o-veggies is canned chicken. May sound a bit strange-ish, but I am loving those chunks of chicken throughout my leafy greens!

I wish we had Trader Joes here in TX! My turkey bacon is Jennie-O’s and it’s one pt per slice, 2pts for two slices.
I love adding apple to my salads for that sweet crunch, grapes are yummy too. I like berries on a spinach salad with a ff raspberry dressing 🙂 Can’t wait to see your weekly menu, your blog is a great inspiration.

Hi Danica. OH Wow….I’d be right there with you buying the “new” foodie things!!!! Can’t wait to see what you make with it all. Have a great Sunday, good luck at weigh in!!!

thanks for telling how you cook your bacon, will try that!
I love feta and walnuts in my salads.

I like to defrost frozen peas and corn and toss that in. If fresh are available, even better. The dressing is the key, though. For one of my favorites, I combine light Italian dressing with tahini, fresh garlic and Splenda in my blender. Mega Yum!!!!

🙂 We went to Trader J’s yesterday. I emailed your list to my Droid. Almost 400 dollars later, I have food till the end times I’m thinking. The cashier was laughing. I hate making multiple trips so I tend to overstock. But we did look pathetic.
I have cut back on eating out (which I did every day for lunch and at least 3 to 4 times a week, so I needs lots of food. This is all new to me. Having to make my own and cook (Yes, I’m that lame.)
I also ordered these
Christin says
Oooops, hit enter too soon.
I ordered 15 calorie zero fat , zero points for one! almond biscottis on line. I can’t wait to try them.

Hi, Danica
I use Oscar Meyer fully cooked bacon but I don’t know how many points. I know regular bacon is usually 1 pt. per slice.
I love your posts. Your 5-a-day bowl is wonderful.
Thanks for posting.
