Breakfast ~ Help Wanted

February 19, 2010 by DanicasDaily 20 Comments

This morning I woke up super hungry, but, nothing sounded good again.  I really need to think about some new breakfast inspirations.  Breakfast was simple, but, delicious.  I really think you cannot go wrong with bread n buttah!!!

2 slices TJ’s FF Multi-Grain Bread topped with 1 Tbsp whipped butter (4 pts)

P.S. Whipped Butter saves you points 2 versus 3 in the real deal

IMG_9643

Plus 1/2 c of banana chips (1 pt).

IMG_9644

Surprisingly my breakfast held me over until lunch ~ odd, but, I am not complaining. The husband was working near me today so he asked if I could bring him lunch.  Since it was my REST day, I was all for it.

I picked up another AMAZING Subway Sandwich ~ I am kinda addicted to these lately.  I totally blame it on the AVOCADO!

IMG_9646

9 Grain Honey Oat (4 pts)

Turkey/Ham (1 pt)

AVOCADO (2 pts and totally worth it!)

All the veggies, salt, pepper & vinegar (0 pts)

I really wanted chips today so I picked up some 2 pt Baked Lays so I could stuff them IN my sandwich.  I think that might be the 2nd best addition to any sandwich :)  Yup, we totally ate on the ground sitting side by side on the steps 😉 (LOVE)

IMG_9645

On my way back to work, I remembered that it was 20% off at Over The Top Yogurt Shop since it’s supposed to rain.  I LOVE that they have a coupon for rainy days that doesn’t expire :D  I totally made my froyo Over The Top today 😀

3 types of FF Froyo ~ Very Strawberry, Vanilla & Pina Colada topped with Sprinkles, Mini Yogurt Chips and a few DARK chocolate chips for good measure (5 pts).  See, that is one benefit of giving up my morning and afternoon snack ~ I traded them both in for THIS…

IMG_9647

I totally say WORTH IT~ then again, I think I could eat froyo EVERYDAY!

When I got home, I had a fun package waiting for me from Foodzie!  They sent me a jar of Chile Crunch to experiment with in recipes.  How cool does this look and sound?

IMG_9650

The stats are not bad considering that you can probably BARELY handle 1 tsp of this spicy Chile Crunch.  LOVE the CLEAN ingredient list too!

IMG_9651

I can definitely see adding this to stir fries, soups, pasta, sauces, marinades…..I LOVE HOT Chili Spice.  How would you use it???

IMG_9652

I had planned on whipping up a fancy Tomato Basil Spicy Pasta for dinner using this sauce, but, our friends called us up at the last minute.  We ended up at Mel’s Diner which is sorta like a Denny’s meats Burger Joint from the 50’s.

I traded in my French Fries for a garden salad.  See ~ now doesn’t the addition of that one tomato and the crackers make it seem like more than a salad? LOL…Dressing on the side (2 pts)

IMG_9657

No worries though, The Husband gave me one of his fries to share ~ that’s totally LOVE.

IMG_9660

I ordered their teriyaki burger which sounded AMAZING in the description ~ sautéed mushrooms, pineapple slices and teriyaki sauce on a wheat bun.

IMG_9659

Um, ya, totally didn’t match the visions I had in my head LOL :)  I actually didn’t eat the bun because it was soaked in butter.  I put my burger on the tomatoes and lettuce and ate it by itself.  (4 pt guesstimate)

IMG_9658

I was still hungry so I stole some of The Husband’s corn bread and poured honey all over it :D  SO GOOD ~ he actually doesn’t like corn bread so I guess I didn’t really steal it.  (3 pt guesstimate)

IMG_9662

I am definitely thinking I will get back in the kitchen cooking this weekend since we finally have no big plans.  I LOVE being out and about but sometimes it’s nice to just be home.

I am doing my long run with my sis tomorrow and having lunch with her ~ I think we will hit the 8 mile marker tomorrow…maybe 9?

QUESTION: So I am definitely in a breakfast rut and need your ideas!!! What is your FAVORITE breakfast to eat?

Night!

Breakfast is definitely my favorite meal, so I can’t choose just one! My top choices are: green smoothies, homemade egg white sandwiches, overnight oats, breakfast “cookies,” and yogurt messes with all kinds of mix-ins! If I have more time, baked oatmeal and veggie frittatas are also great. Nothing out of the ordinary, but it keeps it interesting!

    How about a breakfast burrito?

    Or a breakfast parfait?

I do love a good breakfast burrito. Here is what I use when I decide to make one.

4 egg whites (protein madhouse for just 1 point *I think 1 pnt anyways)
handful of spinach leaves (0 points)
1 FlatOut wrap (some are 1 point, some are 2, depends on variety)
Hummus (again, 1 or 2 points, depends on brand and portion)
drizzle of Sriracha (or you can use salsa, both are 0)

And there you have it. SO GOOD and only 3-5 points. There’s just something magical about this flavor and texture combo. Hot eggs, crisp cool spinach and creamy hummus with Sriracha HEAT. It’s amazing!

I’m in a breakfast rut too. Mostly because I’m trying to avoid dairy and my breakfast needs to contain complex carbs protein and FAT. Lately i’ve been having 2 hardboile eggs with steel cut oats on the side. I just looked up avocado ideas and found one for smashed avocado toast. Avocado is sooo good for u. I also looked up Cuban ideas bc I got a plantain and wanna make either “fried” healthy plantains or tostones (healthy). The ideas I got were basically brown rice, blk beans, egg and plantain and avocado/guacamole. Or just scrambled egg and rice with plantain and avocado. Sounds good to me!!! I need something I can reheat at work because I go to the gym so early in the morning that I get a few bites of breakfast (2/3) and eat the last 1/3 at work or something. Also when I’m in a breakfast rut, I’ll just eat non typical breakfast food like leftover dinner or lunch for breakfast

i never knew you could get avocado at subway!!! i guess i’ve just never seen it there… next time i’ll have to look! that burger sounds so good too!
my favorite breakfast is crock pot oats! all you have to do is add steel cut oats and water or milk to the crock pot at night, just following the measurements on the bag, and put it on low before you go to sleep! in the morning you get the most AMAZING oat ever! they’re super creaming, and cooked perfectly! they’re the best oats i’ve ever had and they’re super easy! they don’t even take more than 5 minutes to prepare in the morning! i usually just add my toppings, usually banana or pumpkin, and pop the bowl in the microwave for a few minutes to get them nice and hot! soooo good! i highly suggest trying them!

    your eats looked good today!

I love kath’s oats with banana. I use 1 egg white instead of milk and I put barney butter on top. Favorite breakfast and I can eat it every day.

I also love fried egg white + canadian bacon + sprinkle of cheese on a toasted TJ whole wheat pita. Those pitas are my favorite bread. Such a yummy breakfast sandwich.

This is a great on the go breakfast. I have about 18 in my freezer right now. I make 12 of of them from the recipe and I use regular milk and about 1/4 cup sugar (next time I’ll try 2 TB). I like to warm it in the micro and top it with some almond butter. Great with coffee

I eat the same breakfast most days- have been for 3 years and I love it! It also keeps me full.
1 Ororwheat Double Fiber muffin (1)
1 morning star soy sausage patty(2)
    1 slice 2% american cheese (1)

I usually have a piece of fruit with it too. 🙂 YUM! You can also add an egg or egg beaters if you want.

I take half a Weight Watchers bagel and put a slice of Sargento’s reduced fat provolone on it, then put garlic powder & Lowrey’s seasoning on the cheese. I broil it until it gets melty. It’s yum, I promise!

That sub looks so delicious to me right now! I wish the subway near me offered avocado, but sadly they don’t. It’s so good on sandwiches. 🙂

Sad, that burger looked really good!

I’ve been on a french toast kick lately or when I want to mix it up, I make a clean out the fridge omelet. When I feeling really really saucy, I made the omelet and before I fold, I stick a warm waffle with syrup in the middle to make a omelet/waffle. Call me crazy but it is wonderful!!! How about a breakfast quesadilla?

I love subway too. Haven’t had it in forever – only because I try to make all of my food to save money. One time, I made a sandwich that tasted exactly like subway (which in my opinion, has a particular taste versus getting a sandwich with the same ingredients can have a completely different taste from a diff sandwich place).

I don’t have any good ideas for b-fast. If I have time, I like to make an plain egg white omelet with ketchup, side of toast with goat cheese or cream cheese. So simple but sooo good.

I also like to make pancakes if I have time. Here’s a low cal/ low fat recipe if you’re interested: http://jqlee.wordpress.com/2010/02/06/snow-recovery/
