Burger Me!

June 5, 2011 by DanicasDaily 22 Comments

Happy Sunday all!  The Husband and I escaped the rain yesterday by heading out for a Mini Road Trip to have some fun and some good food.  Yup, we totally planned our day around the FOOD PLACES we wanted to eat….but, one involved a Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives location so can you really blame us?! Winking smile

Before heading out the door I whipped up Cheesy Sausage Breakfast Burritos for both of us.  The Husband said it totally reminded him of a Sausage Egg McMuffin too Open-mouthed smile

IMG_2780

I really think it’s the REAL DEAL Full Fat Pepperjack that makes these awesome!

IMG_2778

Served with a Grapefruit Orange.

IMG_2781

Road Trip “Bucks” Venti Iced Dirty Coconut Latte (nonfat decaf latte with 1 pump mocha & 1 pump COCONUT) (4 points+

IMG_7673

We did a little bit of antiquing once we arrived in Reno (The Husband scored a bunch of Casino Chips that the collects) and then we were off to my FAVORITE place ~ Michael’s Deli.

Turkey Vegetable Soup that tasted just like Thanksgiving (I think it was the herbiness) ~ This totally the spot! (3 points+)

IMG_2787

I ventured out again from my usual Thai Chicken Salad and moved onto the Caprese Salad.

Vine ripened tomatoes, and fresh mozzarella cheese served over mixed greens with a honey mustard vinaigrette, Pesto, balsamic vinegar, & avocado

IMG_2789

AVOCADO might be my favorite new addition to the Caprese Salad along with those pink pickled onions.

IMG_2790

Completely amazing and worth every single points+.  I would definitely go back for this salad alone! (12 points+ ~ high estimate+)

IMG_2791

After lunch and a tad more shopping, we decided to do a little gambling before we hit the road.  Would you all believe I WON $300 OFF $0.30 (30 cents!) ~ so cool!  If I would’ve been brave and betting $1.50 a spin, I would’ve won $1,500 ~ crazy!

IMG_2795

On our way back home we decided to stop at Burger Me! ~ one of the places that Guy Fieri visited in Truckee as part of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.

IMG_2803

The Husband was pretty happy to be stopping at a Burger Joint Winking smile

IMG_2802

The building is actually right off the freeway and right across from the train (the same train I take to work ~ crazy, cool!)

IMG_2800IMG_2812

Their menu and specials are all written on the chalk board and it’s lined up to let you know how to order…pick your burger, pick your toppings, pick your sides.

IMG_2810

Guy’s stamp of approval (I had no idea each place has this).  I am totally going to look for this little stamp now every time we visit a Triple D location!

IMG_2815

I fell in love with their decor….I LOVE all the bright colors.

IMG_2816

But, really LOVE their chairs!

IMG_2807IMG_2808

I honestly wanted to to order a REAL DEAL burger, but, when I saw that they make their own Veggie Burger, I had to try it.  I topped it with Caramelized Onions, Mushrooms, Lettuce, Tomato and Pepper Jack Cheese.

Can I just say seeing this show up on our table just made me happy?! It was so HUGE that The Husband asked me if I got a double burger lol….

IMG_2822

It was ok…..I liked how crispy it was and I LOVED the toppings so I decided to just eat the toppings after just a few bites. Next time I’d totally get a turkey burger or beef burger for sure.

3 points+ estimate based on a few bites plus toppings

IMG_2821

Then, moved onto their thick steak cut sweet potato fries and dipped them in a little ketchup and a little chipotle mayo. (13 points+)

IMG_2818

Dessert ~ it was the Vanilla Bean Ice Cream and tasting The Husband’s Milk Shake that made me HAVE to get a mini cone Open-mouthed smile  (5 points+)

IMG_2823

As fun as our dining out has been the past two days, I cannot wait for a day of eating in.  I am off to plan our weekly menu, stock up and work on recipes!

Q’s

Have you ever visited a Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives location?  If so, which one.  If not, what one do you want to visit?

This is the first place I’ve gone to, but, we have one right down the street from our work that I should check out!

See you all tonight with my Weekly  Menu and an on track day!

Wow congrats on winning $300! I haven’t gambled much so the most I’ve ever won is $10. >.< And I was pretty psyched about that…$300 would blow my mind!

Those sweet potato fries look delicious! I've never been to a Diners, Drive-In's and Dives location, but since I'm road tripping to San Diego in August I may have to look one up! I love watching food travel shows in the hopes of someday going there!

I fall into that trap often too… ordering a veggie burger at a place because they make it on-site, and then wishing I’d ordered meat instead! 🙂 It all looks delicious, especially those fries!!!!

I have been to Sophia’s dinner in Buffalo, NY, awesome food.
Insalata Caprese is my fave and there is a restaurant that my husband and I go to and we always share one. I would love the avocados, my husband would not.

Schooner or Later in Long Beach( not that great, way overpriced), Mom’s tamales in LA and this place in Buffalo. Cant remember the name. The wait was way too long so we left. I want to check out a place in WLA called Gloria’s. Oh, I almost went to Sol( or some similar name) in San Rafael, but I walked right by. This was before the restaurant was on Diner’s.

I’m back again, Ive also been to Brat Bros in Sherman Oaks. I’m looking at the Diner’s map of Cali to refresh my memory. There is a diner in Berkely, that has been on the show. Have you ever been there?

I have been to at least one from Triple D. Parkette Drive In. It’s in my hometown, Lexington, KY. I have also been to a couple of Man Vs. Food places. Anytime I go on a roadtrip I try to plan around that.

Wow! First, we go go Burger Me every time we’re up there and I’ve never seen it empty! You must have been there at an off time? Second, can’t believe no one mentioned Jamie’s Bar and Grill on Broadway in Sacramento! If you decide to go. . . keep in mind there is no sign on the outside. Apparently it blew off many years ago and they never replaced it.

Triple D had been to a couple of restaurants right here where I live, Pawley’s Front Porch and The Farmer’s Shed. Haven’t made it to The Farmer’s Shed, but I love Pawley’s Front Porch. They do seriously kicked up burgers, like one with fried green tomatoes and remoulade sauce. Best burgers ever!!!

    Yummy food!!!

I’ve been to one Triple D place here in Phoenix, it’s called La Piazza al Forno in Glendale, AZ. They have the best “White” pizza. I have only been there once but it was so good. I want to go back again one of these days. There are a few other places he’s been here in Phoenix and I would love to visit them as well.

    Hi Andrea,

I think for me it depends on the day or week. Some days/weeks are more challenging than others, but, I do believe in persistence over perfection. Once I gave up the fact that I had to be perfect 100% of the time, then, I found the program easier to work for me. It really helps to set mini goals (i.e. can you lose 5 lbs?) and then set rewards for those increments – things you really want to work for. Then, just take it one day, one meal at a time and before you know it, you will be back on track.

    Good luck!

    Hi Lucia,

Thanks! Yes, I do cut my patty in half to make sure it goes all the way across my tortilla.

    HI Randi,

You are too cute! The diner is called Bette’s Diner and I haven’t been there yet. I keep saying I am going to but I haven’t yet. There are so many good places to try so little time lol.

    HI Susan,

I was actually really surprised because I read so many reviews saying that it gets packed on the weekends and we might have to order to go. Believe it or not, it was Saturday, dinner time – 630 PM! I was glad that we didn’t have to eat in the car though LOL.

There are so many places in Sac I NEED to go to…..I will add Jamie’s to the list!

    Hi Lisa,

The “secret” is in the pan. The Husband bought me this pan called One Egg Wonder (probably at Walmart). It cooks up each egg perfectly round every time. I LOVE it. Here is a link to show you what it looks like.
