Can you be bribed with good food? Um, I can!

September 19, 2010 by DanicasDaily 9 Comments

I really tried to focus and stay true to My September Goals this weekend while we were out of town.  I was able to fit my veggies in at breakfast only one time and not so much for my snacks, but, I made sure that I fit in extra veggies at lunch and dinner.  I think I did good making healthy choices and had some delicious food along the way.  Fingers crossed the scale shows my efforts this week šŸ™‚

When I started putting together my weekend highlights post, I realized that we visited some of my favorite places and I naturally gravitated towards the healthier options ~ I officially cross the 21 days to a new habit on Tuesday and I think my taste buds are there in wanting veggies with every meal ~ AWESOME!

SATURDAY

I think you all know I am pretty much addicted to going to Michael’s Deli whenever we are in Reno because their Thai Chicken Salad is AMAZING.  I was so excited when I saw that they serve breakfast too ~ boy do they serve breakfast!

Spinach & Mushroom Omelet ~ Michael’s Deli, I officially LOVE you!!!!

Mushroom & Spinach Omelet

With 1 slice of Whole Wheat Toast (The Husband ate the other – so proud of my Wonder Bread Boy for branching out into grainy goodness & liking it!:D)

Omelet & Toast

We stopped at Starbuck’s to read the paper and have a Grande Iced Latte for snack.

Grarnde Iced Latte

After working up an appetite antiquing, we made our way back to Michael’s Deli so I could get their Thai Chicken Salad that is BEYOND GOOD!  I keep saying ā€˜ll try something else on the menu, but, I can’t help but get this like EVERY time!

Thai Chicken Salad

I really think the secret is in the sauce :)  Their chicken is topped with a Sweet & Spicy Garlic Chili Sauce.

After making my donation to the local casinos I snacked on an apple and some cashews that we brought with us.

Apple & Cashew

We had dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe.

Hard Rock Cafe Lake Tahoe

I was so excited when they had EXACTLY what I was craving on the menu.  Simple Garden Salad to start (I moved the Cranberries over because they didn’t really go with Ranch).

Garden Salad

I swapped out my Cheddar Garlic Mashed Potatoes for loads of steamed broccoli (who am i?!)  Along with my head of broccoli I had the BEST Hawaiian Pineapple Chicken.  Too bad I only had room for half of it.

I am DEFINITELY recreating this soon!

SUNDAY

We were originally going to come home on Saturday night, but, decided to extend our stay in Lake Tahoe for another day.  I have to admit, I LOVED waking up and being able to go down to the lobby and get a Venti Iced Latte from Starbuck’s.  šŸ˜€

After I managed to earn some of my moohlah back, breakfast was in order at a new place we have never been too ~ Tahoe Key’s Cafe.

How cute does it look?!

Tahoe Keys Cafe

If you all are ever in South Lake Tahoe, you need to add this place to your must try list.  I am pretty sure if you are anything like me, you will want to try everything on the menu šŸ™‚

Keys Cafe Menu

I LOVE local owned places that not only serve organic eats, but, are sustainable and know a few things about what is good for you ~ how delicious does that Acai bowl Sound?!

Keys Cafe Breakfast Menu

I actually wanted eggs ~ crazy since I’ve been tired of them :)  I ordered their Low Carb Custom Made Breakfast Burrito and it was AMAZING!

Low Carb Breakfast Burrito

It was filled with ham, cheese, eggs, salsa and I made sure to pour hot sauce all over each bite.  I gave The Husband my other half because it was HUGE.  My tastebuds probably could’ve eaten it, but, I knew my stomach was full.

Ham & Cheese Breakfast Burrito

On our way home we stopped at the Antique and Vintage Fair in Folsom.  Have I ever told you all I have a thing for SHAVED ICE?  As in I get it where ever we go šŸ˜€

Shaved Ice

Breakfast and that shaved ice šŸ˜‰ Kept us going for 7 hours so we ended up having ā€œLINNERā€ – Lunch Dinner at Jack’s Urban Eats.

Jack's Urban Eats Chicken Salad

I think this might be my new favorite salad combo from Jack’s aside from the fact that I feel like I get my 5 a day all in one bowl.

* Mixed Greens

* Red Bell Pepper

* Cucumber

* Pepperoncini’s

* Garbanzo/Kidney Beans

* Grilled Mushrooms

* Grilled Chicken Breast

* TEQUILLA LIME DRESSING ~ The star!!!

MMMMM, I LOVED my weekend not just for all the fun we had, but, for the FOOD. It’s ok, I can admit I can be bribed into just about anything with the promise of AMAZING FOOD šŸ˜‰

WHAT IS ONE FOOD YOU CAN BE BRIBED TO DO ANYTHING WITH???

We all have them ~ for me, well, it’s really any of my FAVORITE things, but, usually involves a delicious salad, shaved ice or ice cream!

Night all!

    It’s amazing how you can get the BEST salads. Around here, it’s very rare to find a decent salad. I have to make my own if I want something worth eating. šŸ™‚

    Great weekend Danica! šŸ™‚

    I can totally be bribed with good food and often use it to bribe others too:-) You should be proud of making so many healthy choices on your weekend away – eating half the burrito, swapping broccoli for mashed potatoes, limiting your amount of toast. Those are the easy swaps and lifestyle changes that support a lifetime of slim eating and living. Good for you!

    Um… if there is sashimi or a hamachi collar in front of me, I will do WHATEVER anyone says! ha ha ha! (Well, maybe not strip down naked and run through Denver… although for the right amount of sashimi, MAYBE)
