Happy Weekend all! How is your Easter weekend going? We have settled into the fantastic sunny, mid 70’s weather in Santiago, Chile and took our first road trip to Vina Del Mar today to see the ocean. I thought I’d pop in to share a few highlights of our trip so far with you all.
I didn’t take as many pictures this year as I snapped over 500 pictures last year. You can check them out by clicking this link if you want to see more pictures.
View from our hotel room in Santiago.
My all time favorite burger place – Mr. Jacks. We went here twice last year so it was first up on our list this year.
The Husband gets the Mr. Jack Bacon Cheeseburger on the top and I get the Mr. Jalapeno on the bottom.
What makes them amazing…. Homemade, free form perfectly seasoned burgers with “secret sauce”, grilled onions & jalapenos, cheese and a really good bun. You eat them with a fork and knife which is a bit challenging but it’s the Chilean way.
My favorite new snack. I love the Cheezels which are like super cheesy cheese puffs.
Breakfast I struggle with a bit because well like everything is super under cooked for my taste. Scrambled eggs are sunny side up, bacon is very pink and hard boiled eggs are soft boiled.
What I love…All the fresh homemade breads and the most cooked protein I can find. The fruit is ok and the vegetable tortilla (triangle) is pretty tasty.
Then I turn it into an egg sandwich. The roll tastes just like a saltine cracker.
We went to Margaritas on the beach in Vina Del Mar. I love that they serve you guacamole with your and you have to ask for salsa.
The Husband loved the old school pop and I order Agua Con Gas everywhere we go. Bonus points if you know what that is.
Rice & Bacon Black Beans…The one way I don’t mind the soft, pink bacon.
Chicken Tacos which are filled with grilled onions & chicken then topped with melted cheese. You get to pick your sides…So I picked guacamole and pico de gallo filling my “tacos” with everything as I ate them with a knife and fork. So delicious!
Tonight we walked to “Food Boulevard” – that’s actually what this place is called. It’s an entire mall of restaurants. We ended up at PF Chang’s….I couldn’t resist. We shared everything. This came pretty close to tasting just like it does back home.
Chicken lettuce wraps
Shrimp Potstickers – my favorite!
Mongolian beef – The Husband’s favorite.
No Fortune cookie which I kinda missed.
We stopped at Yogurt Life for our walk back. The froyo is so interesting because it actually tastes like real yogurt versus ice cream….Maybe that means it’s better for you here?! 😉
Here are just a few snaps of Vina Del Mar today. If you ever come to Santiago, you have to visit here. It’s a short metro and bus ride for less than $10 per person. We walked the beach walk checking out the vendors and donated to the casino betting 5,000 pesos at a time.
We haven’t planned out tomorrow yet but I think we might take the metro or hop on Hop off bus around town.
Night all!

We’ve been to Chile 3 times, our daughter married a wonderful Chilean guy. Will you also go to Valparaiso? I assume you’re there for the vineyards…Undurraga and Concha y Toro are both easy to get to from wherever you are staying in Santiago. Cerro San Cristobel is a nice uphill hike right in the city, if weather permits! Especially nice after the rain when the smog clears and you get the full view from the top. I’m so jealous right now just thinking about this place! Enjoy some “vino tinto” for me. =]

never mind, I just went and looked at the photos from your last trip, you hit all the high notes and obviously know how to get around when you’re there!! Love that you even took a photo of the “super ocho” candy bar. =]

Hi Anne,
I love the ideas – thank you for sharing. I did not know about the hiking trail so that’s definitely now on my list.
