Dirty Americano!

April 24, 2012 by DanicasDaily 28 Comments

Happy Tuesday all!  It is awesome to see so many of you excited about Getting Fit with my Eat Smart Get Fit Giveaway….You all are so inspirational with all the reasons you list for why you want to win.

I am not sure if I ever told you all, but, it was my hairdresser who introduced me to Dirty Lattes.  Last week when we were chatting it up and talking about different ideas for things to order at Starbuck’s, a Dirty Americano came up.

I was telling her how I go for Iced Americano’s or Coffees when I want to save on points+ versus having my Iced Dirty Latte……and then, it hit me.

Why not order a Dirty Americano?!  I mean, how FUN is that to say LOL and it is even less points+ than a Dirty Latte.

Venti Iced Dirty Americano = Iced Americano (espresso & water) with 2 pumps Mocha for….drumroll…..only 1 points+.  I added a splash of half & half for another 1 points+.

It was delicious and although I cannot check off a dairy, it’s my favorite new thing.  I can’t wait for coconut to come out again!

Paired with a little protein (Morning Star Veggie Sausage ~ 2 points+) and a banana.

I have declared this week MY WEEK at our Café because every single day they have a new Burger Salad!!!  Once I saw that on our weekly menu, I completely abandoned all plans for bringing lunch…..I mean ~ look at how delicious burger salads can be!

The Salad ~ Salad as my co-worker called it a.k.a. Veggie Burger Salad.

IMG_6664

Grilled Vegetable Burger on Spring Greens w/Feta Cheese, Roasted
Corn, Zucchini, and Diced Tomatoes drizzled with a strawberry balsamic reduction. (5 points+)

I still wanted something else to snack on so I grabbed a 1/2 of of Salt & Vinegar almonds ( 2 points+)

IMG_6670

Mid afternoon snacks during training……Cheese Bites (3 points+ for 1 oz)

IMG_5817

and Grape bites!

IMG_5818

Both The Husband and I ended up working late so we changed up our plans for dinner to make up something quick.

He grilled up these Cheesy Artichoke, Roasted Garlic and Cheese Chicken Sausages with BBQ Sauce (3 points+)….while I worked on the sides.

IMG_6676

1/2 cup Harvest Grain Salad (4 point+)

IMG_6681

With Super Cheesy Cheesy (1 points+)

It’s pretty amazing how different my stats are when I do not work out (I chose sleep instead this morning).

  • Calories burned: 2, 318 (12 am – 10 pm)
  • Steps taken: 3,743 (5 hours of training!)
  • 22 Daily points+ used:

Tomorrow it’s time to hop back on the treadmill!

Q’s

Do you have a FAVORITE coffee drink that you make or order?  If so, what is it?

Night all!

I don’t drink coffee or anything that tastes like coffee. I know Starbucks has other items. Do you know of any drinks to make up without using coffee?

My favorite go to hot drink from coffee places are steamers. I don’t like coffee either. Steamers are just hot milk with a little flavoring. My favorite is Amaretto. Starbucks doesn’t have that flavoring, so I usually go with hazelnut. Peppermint is good too. I order it with skim milk & sugar free syrup. Yummy!

I agree with everything they said. I love chai tea lattes, hot chocolate, cider and you really can have any syrup mixed up with iced or steamed milk.

That salad gave me a great idea! I was able to go to a TJ’s when we went out of town a couple of weekends ago. I have some Chili Lime Chicken Burgers in the freezer, and some of their roasted corn. Dinner tonight!

I’m not a coffee person but I love Starbuck’s Chai Tea Latte.

      HI Barbara,

I was shocked too when I broke down the ingredients, but, you know why it is so low ~ the VEGGIES.

      Gardenburger = 3 points+
      2 Tbsp full fat feta = 2 points+
      1 Tbsp corn = 0 points+
Salad mix, zucchini, tomatoes and green onions = 0 points+
      balsamic vinegar = 0 points+

I’d totally order it all over again.

I work at Starbucks and I can’t commit to just one drink…I’ve worked for the company for 11 years this May and I go through phases!! Right now, I usually drink an iced half caf grande 2 pump toffee nut americano while I am working. When it is my day off, I get a half caf skinny caramel macchiato (double tall if hot, grande if cold).

I am so excited for them to bring back the coconut as well. I was so addicted to that!! YUM. I wish I had a burger salad place near my work! That is too cool. Haha, your quick and easy dinner looks amazing.

My go to drink has always been a short cappacino but since starting work at Starbucks I’ve been trying to be more adventurous. Currently I’m digging the iced coffee with nonfat milk! Cheaper than an iced lattee and tastes just as good in my opinion. Plus, free refills if you have a Starbucks Gold Card!

And your “quick” dinner looks so awesome. Nothing like I come up with for a quick dinner. I’m going to look for those sausages this week at Sam’s.

Question, Do you think it would still be an Dirty Americano if instead of mocha, I added ff Vanilla? and a splash of half and half? The salads look very inviting! Thank you for all of your 411 and help!

      Hi Colleen,

It probably wouldn’t be dirty since the dirt refers to the mocha, but, you could definitely order it just like that. You get 2 pumps of any syrup for 1 points+.

What would the total of the Dirth Americano be without the half and half? I think I am confusing myself.

Only 1 points+ since you can have up to 2 pumps of syrup for 1 points+. Total DEAL!

Hi! I am a recent addition to your following and have to say I love how you structure your posts! I have also recently started back up with WW and I have a hard time filling my days with enough food to keep me satisfied. When I see how much food you are able to get along with the points, it helps me plan better and keeps me motivated. Thank you!

Never heard of a Dirty Americano
they never advistise it at my starbucks
The reason I get the Latte is to get my dairy in.
    enjoy

I love your pics and your blog, but I feel that you underestimate the points values. I just can’t picture that day being only 22 points for that day. To me it looks like at least 4 Tablespoons of Feta.

I am not trying to say you are wrong, just the pictures always look like way more than you calculate.

      Hi AE,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I do my best to estimate for foods not being prepared by me. I think sometimes pictures with their close ups can look like more ~ this was only on top of a Garden Burger Veggie burger which isn’t that big.

My 2 Tbsp were based on the Cafe server using a tablespoon and scooping it out twice. It is always tough to estimate when you are dining out, but, I do my best and always allow for some flexibility just for that either by not using my entire daily allowance and/or weekly points allowance. On this day, I still had 7 points+ left in my daily target to account for anything extra.

I never drank coffee until 2yrs ago. My ex would have leftover coffee and I’d ask her to save it. I added sugar free vanilla and caramel syrup( order from amazon) and half and half. Now, I make a pot of iced coffee every 4 days( just like above) and have it in my Tervis tumbler( with stainless steal straw). I love it, I cant wait to get up in the morning and have it. I also make ice with filtered water and an old fashioned metal ice cube tray. I have a brand new side by side fridge, but I love my “princess” ice. I cant drink starbucks, its too roasted for me. Too strong. I did try their blond brew and I liked that.
