Happy Wednesday all! I have been waiting like all week long (ok, since I signed up on Saturday) for our beautiful box of Farm Fresh to You Organic Produce box to arrive. All of their boxes are delivered during the “cold” hours of the day somewhere between 8 pm – 8 am. Yes, I totally checked before we went to bed LOL…..and was like a little kid at Christmas getting up early just to see if the box was on the porch this morning.
It was!!! I resisted every urge to wake The Husband up and tell him to look since I am pretty sure he would wonder why I woke him up at 5 something to show him a box of fruits/veggies.
I have ALWAYS wanted to get my hands on a CSA box, but, never have since we are lucky enough to have year round Farmer’s Markets we can go to locally. If you could ask me what is one thing I have always wanted….this is it! Seriously, what can I say, I am easy to please
I have researched several farmer’s and CSA programs, but, have found the Farm Fresh to You to be the best to date. The reason for that is you do not have to go to a central location to get it ~ they deliver it right to your door. But, more importantly, everything is so fresh (not wilted) that you can tell it was just picked hours before it was boxed up to bring it to you.
I love that everything comes from the local farmers in Capay Valley right near us and that they even welcome you to come visit their farm, learn and pick your own produce too.
The one thing that really appealed to me about Farm Fresh to You is that you can customize your box. They offer CSA boxes in every size from small to monster, all veggie or fruit, raw and ready to eat (no cooking required) boxes and you can ask them to swap out/exclude any items you never want to eat (like Okra or radishes). You choose how often you want them to deliver and can even put vacation holds on if needed to.
We ordered the regular size box with a bi-weekly delivery to start. I cannot believe how much we got in our box.
The Fruit Selection:
- 4 pears
- 4 fuji apples
- 5 kiwi
- 1 pomegranate
- 1 lemon
The Veggie Selection:
- Kale
- 2 types of lettuce ~ butter leaf & radicchio
- Golden Beets
- Carrots
and ……A PUMPKIN!!!
All 100% Sustainable & Organically Grown!
I met the folks at Farm Fresh To You at the Foodbuzz Fest this past weekend.
As part of their program, they are allowing me to give all of you $10 off your first box of any size when you enter the code 6164 and give them my full name Danica Pike.
Pretty cool, huh?!
I already have so many ideas in mind for what I want to cook with my box.
- Pomegranate Beet & Apple Salad
- “Bacon” Pumpkin &Walnut Fettuccine
- Chicken & Peanut Lettuce Wraps
- Kale Chips or maybe a delicious soup or Kale Salad
Such a fun way to start my day. For the record, I managed to resist waking The Husband up until 7:30….but, told him he just had to come to the kitchen to “look” before he did anything else
Once the excitement died down, I made us both “Healthy Egg Rolls” (SF + 1 WPA) – 4 points+
After breakfast settled in, I hopped on the treadmill and busted out a 35 minute jog with my only walking breaks for warming up and cooling down ~ success!
I met one of my great friends & biggest Weight Watcher Inspirations! today for lunch. We both decided we wanted something warm, healthy and with a decent points+ value.
We ended up going to Pad Thai, the place The Husband picked in August for his birthday.
We both warmed up with Hot Thai Tea (it’s like black tea with vanilla infused in it) and water.
We started with Gang Jeud Soup…I love the presentation!
This soup was completely delicious with a rich, clear broth. It’s packed with napa cabbage, carrots, peppers, onions, mushrooms, tofu, cilantro and garlic pork. (SF) – 2 points+
I cannot believe I have never, ever ordered Green Papaya Salad until now. This is one of the best salads I’ve ever eaten….it’s slightly sweet from the papaya, crunchy & salty from the peanuts with a little kick from the red peppers and lime.
I am so figuring out how to make this and searching for green papaya!
1 cup = 2 points+ (SF+2 WPA)
We shared the Pad Broccoli with chicken in a black bean garlic sauce. Everything was so fresh, flavorful and the broccoli was crispy tender. 1 cup = (SF) – 3 points+
Super cute presentation again…..the brown rice dish.
2/3 cup – 2 points+ (SF)
The perfect finish ~ Watermelon for dessert.
After drinking a lot of Thai tea, we carried our conversation over to Starbuck’s for lattes and chatted the afternoon away. It really was one of the best times I’ve ever had ~ Thanks Christine!
Tall Non-Fat Decaf Latte with Caramel Drizzled on Top (SF) – 3 points+
As soon as I walked in the door, The Husband told me we were going out to celebrate. When I asked for what, he handed me his lottery ticket!!!
With an offer like that, how could I refuse? My veggie box will have to wait another day. We both were not super hungry so we headed over to Mary’s Pizza Shack for soup and salad.
I started with 2 pieces of hot sour dough (SF + 3 WPA) – 3 points+
Then, moved on to my delicious, small Mary’s Salad with 1 Tbsp ranch, fork dipped (SF + 2 WPA) – 4 points+
Plus a cup of Minestrone ~ it was smoky, spicy, salty and chunky. (SF) – 3 points+
STATS (12am – 730 pm)
- 2,454 calories burned
- 7,772 steps taken
- 8 WPA used, 24 WPA remaining (26 daily points+)
- AL – 99%, 5 Activity Points ~ I am so finding some activity now to get to 100%
QUESTION OF THE DAY:
What would you make with the ingredients in the Farm Box above? Share any and all ideas as you can never have enough recipe and food ideas
Night all!
Kristin says
maybe a waldorf kale salad with apples and pears (using greek yogurt instead of mayo) or a wheatberry salad with kale, roasted beets, apple and pumpkin

Farm to Fresh sounds awesome! Too bad they don’t deliver cross country ): But I’ve been searching like crazy for a local CSA so I can still get my fresh produce fix when the farmer’s market closes.
That Thai food looks AMAZING.
DanicasDaily says
Hi Lea,
Did you enter your zip code? They deliver to several places all over the U.S.
Danica
Lea says
I did, but they don’t deliver to me, but I live in the mountains of North Carolina so I would have been surprised if they did.
DanicasDaily says
I wonder if they would maybe deliver somewhere near you then you could pick it up? Bummer though….

I would have been like you, so excited!!
My daughter and I are going in on a CSA. Can’t wait to start!
I would probably make a kale white bean soup and a massaged kale salad. I’d probably roast the golden beets and chop them and put them on top of a salad 🙂
Anything I didn’t use I’d put in my juicer.
Edna says
I’m bummed out. They aren’t in my area as of now, but I’m signing up for their newsletter so I will have the information as soon as they will be shipping in my area.
The Thai food looks yummers.
Congrats on the lottery win!!

So jealous of your Thai, love the green papaya salad and only have had it while traveling in Germany. We don’t have any Thai restaurants where I live. 🙁
christine says
funny I dislike okra and radishes too!

I did a CSA this year. Don’t think I will do it again as mine is not customizeable. I now have 2 huge heads of cabbage in the fridge and so many zucchini/egg plant in the freezer. Blach. and I hardly got any cauliflower or broccoli, which is what I love. I will just buy local with items that I know I like.
Diane says
I noticed your Yankee Candle on the countertop and I literally just got back from their Flagship store in Deerfield, MA a few minutes ago! Had a great time with friends, especially one who will be moving away next month 🙁 Your veges look so great!

I have belonged to a csa for 4 years now and love it. Since I live in PA our season is about 7-8 months. This year they built additional greenhouses, so now we will have great veggies until Christmas. If you get a chance to go to an open farm day; I encourage you to go. It is so much fun. This summer I took my great niece and she actually got to dig her own basket of potatoes. Another plus to csa is you may end up with produce that you usually would not purchase. Take the opportunity to give it all a try. Our csa also has a weekly newsletter and all sorts of recipes on their site. Enjoy! mary

I just went to a wine tasting and they had a sauteed kale with olive oil/garlic and red pepper flakes with a small amount of orzo pasta and imported feta cheese. The cheese was folded in after it had cooled down a bit. I made out at home without the garlic but with leeks and it was delish
Randi says
I wasnt that impressed with the farm fresh box. I bought a living social deal and my produce wasnt very fresh. Maybe because it was shipped down to LA.
DanicasDaily says
Hi Randi,
Sorry to hear about your farm box. Was you box actually from the company, Farm Fresh To You? I have found that issue with other companies, but, not with the Farm Fresh To You people because they source all their ingredients locally versus shipping them.
Danica
Randi says
Yes, it was farm fresh to you.
