Hi all! After spending our first day walking around Lyon, we decided to hop in the car and drive a few places. The first stop was for The Husband at the Lyon Antique Flea Market. It totally made my heart smile watching him pull out what he wanted to ask for written in French. I don’t think we were prepared for multiple sentence replies lol.Stop #2 I had super high hopes for – The Lyon City Market that was listed as one of the best indoor food/farmers markets in town.
Les Halles de Lyon. This market has a little bit of everything and then some…cheese, meats, veggies/fruit, pastries and food vendors serving things like this Paella.I am a bit freaked out by how huge these shrimp are…for reference lobsters are on the left.I resisted the pastries and bread….The produce was so fresh and coloful.I didn’t brave getting breakfast at the market and instead snacked on an apple/cashews before heading to the Basillica de Notre Dame.
You can walk up the hill, take the funicular or drive but know that parking is pretty limited.
You definitely have to check out the inside as words and photos online do not do this cathedral justice.
You can see some pictures at this link as they only allowed photos of the outside. The other must see when you are at the top of the hill….the 360 Degree view of Lyon.My phone put together my pictures to make this panoramic view automatically – so cool! I was starving by the time we made it back to the hotel for a late lunch.
He had a burger with fries. I stole some fries.I had the linguine with vegetables and pesto which totally hit the spot. After waiting out the rain a but, we headed over to the Casino Le Vert for a little fun and dinner. We had dinner at Le Caz Brasserie. What I am learning is my go-to for salads isn’t really my type of salad. They come with anchovies, duck, octopus, chicken livers and stuff like that. I have a feeling my trip might be light on veggies.
I had about 2/3s of the veggie pizza that came with olives and capers. He had the ham, mushroom and provolone pizza.Night all!
