The next stop on our France West Coast trip involved making the beautiful drive from Amboise to Saint Malo in the Brittany region. The drive is a little over 3 hours but it flies by as you get to see the landscaped countryside, old churches, castles and cute villages along the way.
Our hotel was hands down my favorite place to date. Keep in mind that I might be a bit biased as I love the ocean!
We were right on the ocean at Escalia Oceania in Saint Malo with this wall sized window as the highlight in our room.Just look at the view….I spent every chance I could looking out this window which opened so you could listen to the waves.?One ‘funny’ to me part – the free exercise room. It was so tiny & cute….I know it counts but it still makes me laugh. The outdoor garden was perfect for enjoying breakfast or afternoon drinks outside. You could also soak up the sun, listening to the ocean while reading a book in this part of the garden. This cobblestone walk way goes all along the ocean leading straight to Fort National.I never did figure out what the sticks are for but I think the are to help with high tide. During the peak season waves come all the way up to the rocks crashing on the walls. You can only visit Fort National a few hours during the day when it’s low tide. You also have to make sure you leave before the tide comes back in or you’ll be stuck waiting a long time. It’s about a 15 minute walk along the ocean from our hotel to the Old City.?Inside the rock walls you will find a ton of super cute stores, coffee shops, pastry and candy stores. The best part though is all the eateries that have both indoor and outdoor dining. We picked Le Saint Vincente eating on the covered patio.Shared caprese salad (they call it tomato buffalo mozz salad) which was delicious and fresh with homemade pesto plus lemon vinaigrette.I had the Salmon & Hake skewers which was exactly what I needed. Simple, light, healthy and not fishy at all 🙂After dinner we watched the sun go down a bit on our walk and I snapped these pictures from our room once we were back. Sunset is just after 10 pm here.Catching up on our latest France Trip:
