Good deeds & cheap eats

March 17, 2009 by DanicasDaily 3 Comments

I did a few good deeds today. The Husband is super funny when it comes to trash day. He feels like we need to fill up every single bin 100% to get our money’s worth, this includes our greens bin. If I had to pick, I’d definitely say he is the more frugal one of us, but, definitely in a good way. He is usually the one who mows the lawn, but, I thought tonight, I’d do it and get in a great workout too.

Welll, once I got started, I didn’t want to stop. I ended up mowing our front and back yards, our neighbors yard and then went over to my mother in laws house and mowed her grass too! It almost rained a few times, but, it held out long enough that I could fill up that green bin lol.

The Husband was so surprised when he got home and I definitely think he appreciated it. I made a fast and simple, cheap dinner.

I had bought some Trader Joe’s Natural, Organic Chicken legs (The Husband’s Favorite) over the weekend. Did you know that for the Natural it was $2 for the entire pack and the Organic was $3. Such a deal. I threw it on the grill with some Trader Joe’s BBQ Sauce.

BBQ Chicken

How I missed BBQ/grilled chicken. This was so fabulous. You can leave the skin on or take it off and cook it slowly to have the same moisture. This fell right off the bone.

I also made up some Annie’s Organic White Shells & Cheddar ~ when it’s free, it doesn’t get any cheaper then this 🙂

The Husband declared he was not having any vegetables tonight since he ate the bag of snap peas I put in his lunch box. He’s so funny. So, for my veggies, I made up a quick Spicy Peanut Slaw using Trader Joe’s Lowfat Spicy Peanut Dressing, Organic Broccoli Slaw, a few dry roasted peanuts and The Husband’s signature decoration, 2 not 3, cherry tomatoes.

While dinner was cooking tonight, I cut up the pineapple we had in our fridge from Whole Food’s buy 1 get 1 free sale. I had made us little fruit salads to go with our dinner, but, I was honestly too fully for mine. It will probably make another appearance tomorrow. Here is my dinner all together including my vitamins and Lime Fizzy Water.

This was such an inxepensive dinner but it was so satisfying. I did not realize how much I missed chicken until I had it tonight. After dinner was finished, I started on my next project…..baking.

Kirwin ~ It seemed so much better to me that breaking out a DVD or hopping on the treadmill. Plus, it made him so happy it was all worth it even if it was a bit gross.

Dinner was so yummie, I missed chicken and didn’t think I would.
