Hand Me Some BBQ

April 10, 2010 by DanicasDaily 12 Comments

I LOVE Weekends especially when I can sleep in because we do not have to rush off to be anywhere.  I slept in this morning until 8 AM (that’s late for me) and it was AWESOME! I really wasn’t hungry when I first woke up so I decided to wait for Breakfast.  Surprisingly I still wasn’t feeling anything before we headed out to run some errands so I just went with something light ~ A slice of TJ’s FF Multi-Grain Bread topped 1/2 Tbsp Nut Barn Crunchy Almond Butter (3 pts).

We ended up meeting our friends at Hand Me A Rib ~ a BBQ place to get out BBQ on!  I honestly LOVE ME SOME BBQ…I think it is the one thing I missed the MOST during my Vegan and Vegetarian Adventures.

I ordered their boneless bbq pork rib sandwich with pickles, onions and mild sauce ~ HOLY YUM!  This was smoky, spicy, sweet and salty all in one.  The best part was it was pretty lean. (10 pt estimate – high)

The Husband and I shared some of their homemade BBQ baked Beans…I really like how they added smoke to them!  I need to try that the next time I make Molasses BBQ Beans. (1.5 pts for 1/4 cup)

IMG_2395

I LOVE Cole Slaw…it’s probably the only salad prepared salad I really like.  Since The Husband doesn’t like it, I got it all to myself 😀 (4 pts for 1/2 cup)

IMG_2394

I did my best to eat it all because it was THAT good…but, I only managed about 2/3’s of it before The Husband happily finished the rest 🙂

Our lunch kept me full ALL DAY LONG!  It was probably bread overload or maybe the fact that I haven’t really been hungry all day long….like 8 hours!

I finally whipped up a quick dinner tonight that was delish!  Annie’s White Shells & Cheddar with broccoli (that is added to the noodles during the last two minutes to get steamed/crunchy) and a little leftover grilled chicken from Texas Road House, topped with a sprinkle of crushed red pepper flakes. (7 pts)

I LOVE Annie’s Mac because it’s awesome by itself or when made into a meal.  I washed it all down with a POM Spritzer. (POM Juice plus Soda Stream Fizzy Water!)

IMG_2399

When we were grocery shopping today The Husband picked out some ice cream.  It has been FOREVER since I’ve had a Skinny Cow and I was happy he didn’t pick up the other bars he was eyeing…so I didn’t fight it 🙂

IMG_2406

Then, to  my horror, I looked at the ingredient list….They not only contain High Fructose Corn Syrup, but, they also contain TRANSFATS (partially hydrogenated soybean oil)!!!  Boooo, Skinny Cow!!!…You don’t need those ingredients or such a LONG laundry list to make a tasty treat.  I know The Husband will polish these off, but, I am sorta bummed that I didn’t think to look at the ingredient list before we bought them.  He would’ve happily picked something else I know :(  Next time….

I am still full from dinner, but, I am planning on having this delicious pear instead during our movie tonight.

IMG_2398

I missed out on my dairy today but I will be sure to make up for it tomorrow…I NEED Starbuck’s in my life to get it in 😉 (kidding of course but it’s a GOOD justification).

Q: What is your favorite thing to BBQ or have BBQ’d?  I think mine is probably chicken and turkey burgers…..although I do LOVE tri tip and boneless pork ribs 😀

Have a great Sunday all!

I just picked up some Annie’s BBQ Sauce the other day, and I’m really excited to make something with it – I might try mixing the sauce with some lentils for these faux sloppy joes I see everyone make!
I’m honestly in shock and so disappointed with Skinny Cow for having trans fat and HCFS – what good is something with fewer calories if it has that kind of garbage in it? Shame on them, and thank you for pointing that out, I never would have thought to look for that in Skinny Cow either!

WOW that BBQ pork rib sandwich looks fab. Makes me wish I wasn’t going veg for 2 weeks… 😉

And skinny cow! I love it so, but the ingredient list isn’t exactly on my quest for natural… maybe I will search it out on a free day!! =D

My fave thing to BBQ? Tofu! Really! I love bbq pork and chicken but there is something about baked bbq tofu… mmm, mmm!

I LOVE BBQ! My grandpa made the best North Carolina bbq – with vinegar and crushed red pepper bbq sauce – makes my mouth water just thinking about it!

Here are two recipes: the first one is for a dry rub for pork:

This one is for a North Carolina mustard bbq sauce – let me know if you try them out!

looks like we’ve had similar weekends – we also went to go see date night, have been drinking poms/sodastream mixes, and eating pears!

NO WAYYYY! I LOVE skinny cow’s but I’ve been ignorant my whole life about the ingredient list because they are literally…one of my favorite ice-crem treats in the world. It MAKES my day when they have samples of them at Costco. I return to the sample lady at least 4 times…so i get 1 full skinny cow in samples. hahaah Dang…HFCS and that long list is enough to turn me off. Oh well!! 🙁

I love barbecue. Love it!! I think my favorite is bbq pulled chicken…ohh gawd. actually, i also make a REALLY mean baked tofu and sweet potato (all cubed) tossed in BBQ sauce. 🙂 Hope you’re having a fantastic sunday Danica!

Haha. Here in the south BBQ is a type of food (like ribs, pulled pork sandwiches, etc) and cooking out is grilling and such. So my favorite BBQ is pulled pork sandwiches, but my favorite thing grilled out is turkey burgers!

When you say BBQ do you mean grill? Because if it is… do I have to limit it to just one thing!! My goodness I think my favorite form of cooking is GRILLING! I love grilled onions…. ooo and grilled salmon… ooo grilled hamachi kama…. wait no I love me a nice juicy grilled burger [bison, beef, ostrich, elk, venison, you name it, I love it! ha ha]
