Hi all! Our second day in Kauai included two things I really wanted to do – go to the Farmer’s Market and a Luau on the beach.
We started out at the Anaina House Farmer’s Market but also went to the other farmers market on North Shore too. Before heading out, I had a quick almond butter banana toast slice for breakfast.
It was so fun to not only see all the tropical fruit but to also have the opportunity to try them as so many vendors want you to sample.
We bought salad, pineapple, strawberry papaya, big avocados, carrots, Thai cucumbers, tangerines and Apple Bananas (aka Hawaiian bananas).
Post market, we headed out for a little shopping and lunch at 9th Island Grill. Everyone got burgers and I got these shrimp tacos with the cilantro aioli on the side.
Dessert was Starbucks!! Grande Coffee Light Frappuccino affogato.
Plus a few of these white fudge Christmas cookies.
Our main event for the evening was attending the Aulii Oceanfront Luau on Poipu Beach.
We all got decked out in our new Hawaiian clothes. Snapped while waiting in line. Our table had this Pupu platter on it (aka appetizer platter). I did not eat the beef but tried everything else including the Octopus…but that was only because I had no idea what it was until it was in my mouth lol. It was good though.
My sampler plus a taro root (tasted just like a sweet potato) and a few Hawaiian chips.
We watched the guy climb a coconut tree.
Then, the sunset.
My dinner plate – I actually didn’t try everything lol. My favorite was the Kalua Pork, then, teriyaki ginger beef and noodles. I did eat a purple taro root roll which tasted like the sweet Hawaiian rolls.
The Husband and I shared desserts – I tried the coconut thing which was good, but, weird and the pineapple upside down cake.
I feel like the show was more of a Hula versus Luau as there wasn’t a pig roasted/placed in the sand to cook or conch calling ceremony. That being said, the show was really good – I loved how they had demonstrations from all of the islands all with a bit of humor. It was fun seeing my nieces crush on the guys and my little nephews be mesmerized.
I still checked off my exercise with an afternoon walk hitting 11K steps too.
I’ll be back with my day 10 & 11 recap later this week as tomorrow may be busy as it’s wedding day.
Night all!
My hats off to you for trying the octopus. I made myself try it in Mexico last summer. It was ok but I couldn’t get that vision of an octopus swimming around under the sea. LOL
Sounds like a terrific and HEALTHY trip. I’ve been to Hawaii but not to Kauai. I understand it’s beautiful.
