I learned 2 ways to be “greener” today

August 19, 2009 by DanicasDaily 11 Comments

I woke up this morning thinking I am SO GLAD the weekend is almost hear.  Today was just one of those days I really didn’t want to go to work and wanted to stay in bed….but, I didn’t like the good worker bee.

I have been so indecisive when it comes to breakfast lately so I took the easy way out. I started off with 2 cups of watermelon and cantaloupe.

Quaker Oatmeal Squares.  I LOVE these brown sugar oaty squares.  I only had about 1/3 of this bowl though because they made the announcement that Farmer’s Market Friday was today instead (yeah!!!!)

IMG_0761

I dipped my melon & squares in a little Trader Joe’s 0% Honey Greek Yogurt ~ Delish and easy!  I had some decaf watered down Starbuck’s coffee in my running bunny cup and some water (forgot my Nathan Bottle).

I stocked up my plate when they made the Farmer’s Market announcement and figured I’d trade in my morning snack.  I started off with some super sweet and crunchy yellow tomatos & blueberries.

IMG_0769

With 1/2  a slice of homemade cinnamon bread with HOMEMADE BUTTER!  I had to try the butter when I found out it was homemade.  Wow, it was amazing ~ it’s so much creamier and sweeter.  I “almost” wanted to make my own after trying this.

IMG_0770

Then, to balance out all my “sweetness” I had a little pistachio salt.  I have really been lovin’ pistachios lately ~ I need to eat more!

IMG_0771

I saved my nectarine for later but did drink this interesting Simply Fruit Juice ~ It was 100% Orange & Mango Juice.  So good, I bet it would make fantastic spritzers although some of my co-workers wondered where the Vodka was 😀

IMG_0768

It was another one of my co-worker’s birthdays today so we all headed out to celebrate at TR2 Mexican Food ~ I LOVE this place!!!  I was sorta bummed because I was really looking forward to my Spicy Sweet Potato/Black Bean Taco salad but I guess I have lunch tomorrow now.

IMG_0787

We dined Al Fresco ~ It was the perfect day in the high 70’s outside.  We all agreed that it made us not want to go back to work at all.

IMG_0788

We had chips & salsa to start.  I was really good this time and didn’t pig out on the entire bowl.  I savored a few and worked on drinking water.  I had an entire glass downed before our food came out.

I really “thought” about venturing out today, but, I just LOVE their tacos so much that I ordered two – Chicken & Shrimp ~ Mexican Style (with avocado, cabbage, onion, cilantro, hot sauce and cheese).

The shrimp comes on a homemade flour tortilla

and oozes with hot sauce ~ SO GOOD!

IMG_0783

The chicken comes on two homemade corn taco shells.  I LOVED them both so much that I couldn’t decide which one I liked best.

IMG_0782

I ordered them a la cart without beans or rice and it was the perfect amount of food.  I also managed to down another cup of water too.

Lunch today was really informative for me ~ I learned about ways to be greener!  I never even thought about straws until my co-worker said that she NEVER uses them because they are a waste.  You use it once and toss them which is a total waste.  I NEVER thought of that.

I think the next thing I learned amazed me even more.  So, we have our regular trash can, a recycle trash can and a green waste trash can.  I always thought that the GREEN WASTE was for grass, bushes, etc.  I NEVER knew that you can also COMPOST in it.  So when I got home, I check our green waste trash ~ check it out ~ it actually says it on the lid.

So cool ~ I LOVE discovering new ways I can be greener and better for Earth!

I honestly had no desire to cook at all tonight.  I was glad when The Husband requested BLT’s ~ fast, easy and delish.

I smooshed an avocado and spread it on a piece of toasted Country White Wheat Bread (his bread).  Sprinkled with a little freshly ground black pepper.

Add “fun” yellow/green heirloom tomato slices.

Plus lettuce, TJ’s 97% fat free turkey bacon and romaine.  It was such a good dinner and totally satisfying.

I am not sure about my posting schedule this week since I haven’t been prepping my posts the night before or during lunch.  I may post just once a week for the remainder of this week since I am not feeling it.  Maybe I need a little break or maybe it’s the need to enjoy the last bit of summer, but, I will post at least once a day when I get home if not sooner.

You can always follow me on Twitter as I will be updating with my 150 words whenever I get the chance.  Thanks for reading and all the comments ~ I LOVE each and everyone of them.

Off to relax & read my book ~ Nite all!

That sandwich looks fabulous. I never heard of composting in a garbage can before, but what a great idea! I too am always looking at little ways to “save the planet.” I recently decided that instead of using plastic utinsils, and paperplates at work, I’m going to buy a really cute plate, bowl and my own silverware and keep them at work. 🙂
