Kabob!

January 21, 2013 by DanicasDaily 19 Comments

Happy Monday all!  Last night I told myself that this morning starts easing back into my workout routine now that I have had enough time to recover.  I wasn’t thinking that so much when the alarm went off, but, I told myself just 10 minutes of walking….if I do not feel like doing anything else, I can check that off my list and call it a day.

BUT….after 5 minutes, I was on a roll and chalked a nice and easy 30 minute jog/walk – success!

Breakfast involved my current addiction ~ A Healthy Egg Roll (SF+ 1 WPA) – 4 points+

And anything whirled up in the Vitamix.  Today’s “juice” involved 1 apple, 1 pear, 1 carrot, 1 cup water and 1/2 cup ice.  I split it in two to share with The Husband.

It reminded me a little of Carrot, Apple Raisin salad without the raisins LOL.

IMG_0968

Several of you have asked me how I am counting my smoothies and juices that I whirl up in the Vitamix.  Before I get into my thoughts on this, the official Weight Watchers response is that you have to count the points since you are converting it to juice and “technically” removing the filling fiber component.

Personally, I try to keep my fruit and smoothies in check by not consuming more than I would if I ate the fruit with my meal, i.e., this morning I essentially ate 1/2 a pear, 1/2 an apple and 1/2 a carrot.  As I say with both programs, if you listen to your body and can drink your juice/smoothies while still losing weight at a rate you are happy with, then, count them as 0 especially if they help you get in more fruits/veggies over less healthy choices.  However, if you find you are gaining and/or maintaining, then, you should count the points+ for them.  This is true for both points+ and Simply Filling.

You can read more about my thoughts on the Whole Fruit Topic and Zero Points+ Fruit debate on these two posts I did a little while back.

  • The Whole Zero Points+ Fruit Concept
  • More Thoughts on Zero Points+ Fruit

Mid morning I snacked on a banana…..

I originally planned on having my Curried Cauliflower Soup and Spicy Sesame Noodle Salad for lunch.  However, I shared with one of my co-workers who is just returning from having the flu since she was going to eat soup from a can.  I hope it helps her get better!

I then headed out for Kabobs at Tarla with my other co-worker who was visiting our office.  Funny fact about me ~ I call this place Kabob and tell everyone to look for the orange umbrellas because I can never remember the name Open-mouthed smile

IMG_0974

Have I ever mentioned to you all that I am seriously in love with this place?  It is family owned and the owner’s are so flippin’ cute and friendly every single time we visit.

It doesn’t hurt that I love their healthy kabob lunch either ~ you start off with that bread dipped in olive oil with olives (SF+ 2 WPA) – (3 points+ – I only had half today).

Cream of Tomato Soup (SF+3 WPA) – 5 points+

IMG_0981

Sumac Salad (SF) – 1 points+

IMG_0976

My spicy, melt in your mouth Chicken Kabob! (SF) – 4 points+

IMG_0979

All together with a chickpea rice mound. (SF+ 2 WPA) – 3 points+

IMG_0980IMG_0975

Since today was so incredibly beautiful outside, we took a walk over to Sweetie Pies to pick up treats for our Husbands. I grabbed a small nonfat, decaf latte for me. (SF) – 2 points+

IMG_0415

All day long I couldn’t wait to get home because I put this amazing Slow Cooker BBQ Pulled Pork on this morning.  I used 2 lbs. lean pork tenderloin this time and it turned out to be just as tender.

Topped with pickles and 0 points+ Healthy Asian Slaw that is so good you will be scooping up a side of the salad to have on your plate. (SF + 3 WPA) – 6 points+

IMG_0992

The perfect finish ~ 2 Meyer Lemon Cookies (SF + 2 WPA) – 2 points+

IMG_6767

STATS:

  • AL is my friend today! 129% and 5 Activity Points
  • 13 WPA used, 32 WPA remaining, (30 daily points+)

QUESTION OF THE DAY:

What is one food you are currently addicted to and could eat every day?

Ummm, how do I pick just one ~ it’s like everything in this post from the Egg Rolls to Kabobs to BBQ and anything made with Meyer Lemons!

Night all!

I totally agree with you about consuming juice for no points, within reason.

    Good job on the workout!

I’m in love with Avocados right now. I buy fresh pico and mash up the avocado for instant guacamole. I also can’t get enough spinach salads with pear or strawberries a little blue or goat cheese and some TJ’s raspberry gorgonzola or pear vinaigrette. I seriously need to try that asian slaw! It looks amazing.

I don’t usually count juice especially if it is vegetable based! No one ever got fat drinking spinach/beet/carrot/apple juice 🙂

Question about the juice. I have a blender that I use the entire fruit/veggie. I am still drinking the entire thing including the fiber. So I’m not really juicing, just blending everything up! Do I still have to count points?

      Hi Wendy,

I have the same blender and you know, I still stick to the same logic as I mentioned above. If I can keep things in check and still lose at a rate I am good with, then, you do not need to count it. If you find you are eating too much fruit and/or gaining, it might be good to count it.

      Hi Cara,

You know, I really like that Weight Watchers is focusing more on the mental side of things with the 360 Program and trying to get down to the reasons people overeat/are overweight. I like that they simplified the focus to 3 things – tracking, spaces and routines. I am still debating the new meeting structure – so far, it’s ok. As far as everything else….the program is still the same.

It was apple fritters for a while there… 🙁 I would make one last all week long but it was sooo good with my morning coffee. Now, I’m really into oranges. I was eating clementines but I found Cara Cara’s at Sam’s club cheap and cannot believe I’ve eaten almost a whole bag since Thursday night! Enjoy your day Danica.

My Meyer’s Lemon Tree had a bumper crop this year and I have to make those cookies!
I eat fat free Greek yogurt everyday with different kinds of fruit mixed in. It’s super filling.

I am insane about baby arugula. I make a salad with a Dijon vinaigrette, sliced almonds Asian pear or apple cubes. Delish!

Just wanted to let you know I’ve recently become ADDICTED to your healthy egg roll recipe, and find myself wanting to go to bed earlier so I can get up and make another one for breakfast!! I used to make a 3 pt egg white omelet every morning but there’s something about the hot sauce/corn tortilla combination that is irresistible, so thanks!!!

    Danica,
I am a newbie and am thoroughly enjoying your site! There is no reason to get bored with the same foods over and over again (what I’ve been doing the past 2 weeks). Your photos and your recipes have inspired me. Bless you!
Can you explain the terms WPA and SF to me.

      Hi Dana,

WPA – Weekly Points Allowance – the extra 49 points+ that Weight Watchers gives you to use each week on top of the daily target.

SF – Simply Filling – the other technique for working the Weight Watchers program which allows you to not track and focus on Filling Foods.

I track the points+ and SF since I have readers who follow both programs.

So glad you mentioned the pork tenderloin as I was wondering if I could use this type of pork since I don’t usually buy pork shoulder. P.S. my AL said 136% yesterday and still NO AP’s 🙂

My thought on the smoothies….. if I blend a banana, I must count the banana…but if I eat a banana and essentially blend it in my mouth, I don’t have to count it. Makes no sense, I don’t count them! 🙂
