Today was such a fun day ~ I have to admit it has been nice to blow off all our usual weekend responsibilities to just have fun and enjoy life. On our way out of town to my nephews birthday party we stopped at Starbuck’s.
I was so bummed when they said that they do not get a full pastry order on Sunday. The whole reason I didn’t eat breakfast was to get the Low-Fat Triple Berry Coffee Cake. I settled on the only low-fat option they had today, the Low-Fat Cinnamon Coffee Cake. It was good, but, not the same 🙂
I also got a grande FF iced, nonfat, decaf latte with caramel drizzle that I almost forgot to take a picture of 🙂
The birthday party was at a local party in the country. It was really a beautiful drive and the location made it seem like we had the entire park to ourselves. I made up a big batch of my Vegan Pasta Salad and brought BBQ PopChips (that disappeared as fast as they were opened). For my lunch, I had a little bit of pasta salad, a few PopChips, watermelon/cantaloupe and 1/2 a Don Lee Farms VEGAN burger with all the fixin’s ~ delish and totally filling.
My sis had two cakes with my nephew’s favorite character ~ Elmo! The first was the adult cake that she bought. I think Elmo looks a little crazy…….
I had a slice once I saw it was filled with huge pockets of strawberry. But, it was actually too sweet for me. I had 1/2 and gave the rest to The Husband.
The second cake my sis made for my nephew to dig into. She did such a great job (even with a few fingers in it already) 🙂
He started off just “tasting” the frosting, before digging in for bites of the cake. OMG – so cute and hilarious all at once. You will notice the eyeballs missing – what is up with the little kids wanting to eat Elmo’s eyeballs?! It was a great party and I always LOVE hanging out with my family.
After the party, we headed off to the local Indian Casino for some gambling fun with my sis and her hubby. The Husband was lucky as usual and I pretty much broke even. I consider that a total win since we played for about 4 hours.
On our way home, we stopped at my absolute FAVORITE Sushi place ever ~ Mikuni’s. This place rocks in every way and I absolutely LOVE it! I haven’t been able to go back since moving away over 3 years ago so I couldn’t wait! I started off with their Miso soup.
If you ever go here, this is one of their signature dishes ~ BBQ Ahi in a spicy red sauce. They marinate and grill the ahi just enough to sear it. Then, they top it with this red sauce that is a combination of Sriyachi plus peanut butter with a hint of sweetness. It’s so good that I think I could eat it on everything!
The Husband’s who does not eat fish even got a little brave and tried it. He liked it but had a hard time getting past the fact that he was eating raw tuna. For his appetizers, he got the gyoza and mixed tempura. I stole a piece of each, but, wanted to save room for my sushi!
I had the hardest time deciding what roll to order since I didn’t have anyone who would share it with me LOL. I finally decided to order the Spicy Peter 2 Roll ~ (DF Shrimp, crab salad, spicy tuna, bbq eel, AVOCADO, seared tuna, 2 spicy dream sauces, masago, onion). I LOVED the spiciness of the tuna and the two sauces with the cool creaminess of the avocado – it’s so good – LOVE their sushi. The only problem is I could only eat 1/2 and I was stuffed.
I couldn’t resist posting the funny sign we came across as we drove home. Their is an area of town that has a lot of “juice bars” that advertise on bill boards. This one was my favorite….read the last sentence “1000s of beautiful girls and 3 ugly ones” ~ Now that’s just plain funny!
We had such a great weekend and I LOVED every minute of it. I am forever behind on your comments and catching up on your blogs, but, I am hoping to do so this week! Thanks for continuing to read, leave comments and support me ~ my blog wouldn’t be what it is without you all!
I am off to relax and watch the Next Food Network Star finale and then bed. I plan on getting up early to start my day with a little meditation and yoga. I am striving this week to find inner peace and balance ~ wish me luck!
