Not “Yo” Sushi!

July 1, 2011 by DanicasDaily 8 Comments

Happy Friday & LONGGGG Weekend all!  It is so FUN to see how much you all dig Pop Chips….I actually LOVE the idea that someone mentioned of creating a “Tortilla” Pop Chip.  I somehow have a feeling I’d totally buy that one too.

This morning I couldn’t wait to get back to my Weight Watcher meeting.  Not because I was anxious to get on the scale, but, because I just needed to hit the reset button and find a renewed post vacation motivation.

I was SO EXCITED that my FAVORITE substitute leader was there….Not only is she hilarious and totally motivating, I LOVE that she is REAL and I can totally relate to how she struggles at times just like me.

It was just what I needed for me to say Hey, it was totally worth all the deliciousness I had in Las Vegas to gain 1.4 lbs….but, now I am ready to kick some bootie this week and have a loss this week!

Post Meeting I finally got my Iced Venti Dirty Latte fix with a banana (4 points+)

IMG_3913

I was still hungry so I decided to add in some protein with a Morning Star Veggie Sausage (2 points+).

IMG_3916

Tracey of TJ’s Test Kitchen and I totally planned a road trip for today (Sushi & Shopping!) since I got out of work early for the long holiday weekend.

We were originally planning to go to Matsuyama….a cute little hole in the wall Japanese place.

IMG_3917

However, once we arrived there was a total menu fail and they were not willing to make what we wanted so we headed off to option #2.

It’s too bad because I totally dug their R2D2 soy sauce bottles

IMG_3921

Taki Japanese Restaurant…..

IMG_3923

Their outdoor al fresco dining was awesome, but, we decided to go inside and keep cool.

IMG_3922

Probably the BEST Miso Soup I’ve ever had and not just because it didn’t have the big pieces of sea weed Open-mouthed smile  It was just perfectly balanced in miso saltiness, tofu tenderness and green onionness (totally a word!) 2 points+

IMG_3930

Our waitress let us know the salads were HUGE so we decided to share their cabbage salad.  Simply, creamy and refreshing….and yup, I was totally hoping the carrots were pickled LOL.  1/2 for 4 points+ (I counted it the same as coleslaw).

IMG_3933

Edamame ~ this is my MUST ORDER at every Japanese restaurant because you get instant satisfaction of eating something and a 1/2 cup of Edamame in the pods is a total deal at only 1 points+.

IMG_3935

I was torn between the Spicy Tuna Roll, but, decided to get a little “Crazy” and venture out with the Crazy Roll.  For me, I LOVE raw Spicy Tuna, Salmon, any fish pretty much, but, it NEEDS to have crunch (carrots/cucumber, etc) and creaminess (AVOCADO) to balance out the spice.

IMG_3927

They should name this the “snake roll” ~ kinda looks like one Winking smile

IMG_3940

I usually AVOID the tempura shrimp rolls because I like the fish….once I looked up the points+ (13 for 8 pieces), I was reminded of why I go.

I dipped mine in Sriracha, Soy Sauce and Wasabi….it was tasty, but, definitely Not Yo Sushi good Open-mouthed smile

Note to self to avoid the “fried” shrimp in my rolls.

IMG_3944

One reason I LOVE heading over to Tracey’s house is her BIG STASH of fruit I can raid….actually she made us big fruit bowls to replenish us after our shopping “spree”.

IMG_3945

When The Husband got home, he said he really wanted to use our groupon and go to Monsoon Burgers.

Monsoon Burger

I knew I’d be busting into my Weekly Points Allowance today, so I figured ~ GO BIG or GO HOME!

Not to justify, but, to be honest.  I really COULD HAVE made a better choice ~ veggie burger, chicken breast sandwich, burger salad like before.  But, really, when it came down to it, I got what I REALLY wanted.

Monsoon Burger Menu

A REAL BACON CHEESEBURGER with caramelized onions and BACON!

Grilled Onions, Bacon & Cheddar!

I did make sure I loaded up on those ZERO POINT+ veggies Winking smile LOL….

Build Your Burger Bar!

MMMMM…..it was totally worth every single bite.

IMG_4929

I actually cut my burger in half so I could “assess” how full I was after eating half and decide if I NEEDED (because I knew my mouth would WANT to) go back for more.

I actually did this time and figured I’d rather have the other half over my fries!

IMG_4930

I ALWAYS get rid of my fries (except for 5 of them) as soon as my plate hits the table because I know I could easily eat all of them (5 points+)

I was too full for the fries!

    Hi Danica,
I love your blog and have been reading it pretty much every day since I found it…around the time I started WW at the beginning of April. I was just curious when you started WW and how much you’ve lost doing it?
    Thanks!

I had a sushi craving like none other yesterday so I’m glad at least one of us got the fix! I can never go out to sushi with my boyfriend because it never fills him up! T.T

My favorite topping on a burger is pickles! I actually am not a fan of the bun either so if I can get a lettuce wrap that’s great or, if at home, I use sandwich/bagel things for the bun. Hm..now I really want to go to Red Robin. Ever been there? Delicious!

I’m sure you didnt really gain 1.4. You’d have to eat over 3500 calories more than you’d eat to maintain your weight. You walked and walked and walked and had high sodium restaurant foods. You’re probably just retaining water, I’m sure it will come off next week( plus more)…….

    HI Robin,

Thanks for reading! I have pretty much been a lifetime Weight Watcher ~ honestly off and on my whole life from the time I was 15 years old. My last journey started 7 years ago and I haven’t stopped since. I successfully lost 55 lbs in a little over a year and maintained that loss for 5 years.

That being said, last year was the first year I found a few of those pounds again. i struggle with being consistent ~ one great week, one ok week, etc. Since I decided to finally get serious about things, I am down 10 lbs and working on losing another 10 lbs. Slowly but surely….I figure it’s all about living the lifestyle, I am not in a hurry and eventually if I keep doing the right things, I will get back to my happy weight. It is definitely tougher this time around since my eating habits were already good and I am getting older. I will persevere though 🙂
