Happy Friday all! After 3 airports, two planes and 20+ hours of travel time we have arrived in Adelaide and settled into our quaint little one bedroom apartment on the beach. But, more on that in a few. The Husband and I have already had to much fun with some of the places we ate on our Trek to Australia.
My personal favorite so far just because I am a little kid and love people who put smiley’s on my food with humor is Pie Face!
It was totally the coffee board that drew me to them.
All their prices are in AU Dollars which is fairly close the the USD.
They totally had me when they said all their savory pies come in mini sizes too.
I also wanted to try like every mini sweet pie too because they looked amazing.
So cute!
We bought 3 mini’s to share ~ Chicken & Mushroom, Beef & Mushroom and Tie Chicken.
Smile and eat me ~ Yum!
They taste a little bit like chicken pot pies, but, with this incredibly seasoned filling and buttery crust that flakes off with every bite. The Thai Chicken was my favorite – you could taste the lemon grass with a little spicy kick.
I picked the mini Lemon Pie for dessert. Tart, tangy and totally rich. I could only eat half of it.
The Husband picked pecan pie although I was totally trying to convince him to get the chocolate lol.
He was totally thinking he may not get a good burger for a few weeks, se he stopped at Hungry Jacks (aka Burger King for us!)
We both totally had fun looking at how so many of the brand names are similar but different.
We are staying at the Oaks Plaza right at the Pier in Glenelg, We are literally right on the beach.
We have the cutest European 1 Bedroom Apartment Sweet that is really long.
The kitchenette complete with a washer/dryer that is all in one, fridge and microwave all tucked inside the cabinets.
Our dining room although we have pretty much decided we love sitting our patio more.
Our bedroom is tucked away behind closed glass doors next to the kitchen.
The bathroom has the craziest shower ~ no doors or shower curtains and like 90% of the water somehow stays in it when you take a shower.
The patio I am in love with and the view from our room. When they say you are right on the beach, they are not even kidding.
After settling into our room and stocking up at the local fruit market (I am IN LOVE with how amazing all their summer fruit is and it isn’t priced too crazy), we decided on eating right on the beach at our hotel restaurant,
My favorite part of the hotel restaurants is that you can order off any of the menus regardless of which one you choose to sit in. It totally worked for the steak loving husband and I.
We started with the cheesy garlic bread which was fantastic.
He ordered the Chargrilled Steak with a fondant potato cube and green beans with hazelnut in a port sauce.
I ordered from the Thai restaurant and had one of the best Thai dishes I have ever eaten.
Coconut Shrimp in a red chili, lemon grass, garlic sauce with fresh vegetables over rice noodles. I probably would’ve licked the bowl if nobody was watching.
We picked the banana caramel pie for dessert to share with coffee. The coffee here is so delicious.
After dinner, we took a short stroll on the beach and watched the sunset.
Today one of my coworkers is taking us up to Mount Lofte to catch a view of the city, then, we are off to a little German Town for some delicious German Pub Grub. We plan on exploring Glenelg a bit too.
Catch ya’all later!
Thanks for sharing your great trip! Everything, including the food, looks fantastic!!
Wonderful Danica!
Looks lovely so far!! Don’t forget to have a Vanilla Slice, my very favorite! But also try lamingtons, matchsticks, and Salad Rolls (you will love these!!) and here’s a secret: When you get back to the US, you can order any of these Aussie items and more from The Australian Bakery Cafe which is in Atlanta 🙂
Forgot to add: have you see the water go down the drain the opposite way yet? 🙂
Wow! The beach looks amazing. Enjoy your trip.
So jealous! I have always wanted to go there. Maybe someday. Have a great trip.
I am so jealous! It looks beautiful and the food looks fantastic! Enjoy!!
I work at an architecture firm that designed the first Pie Face in New York city -(next to David Letterman’s office). I love their concept – it’s so fun and inviting.
your apartment looks amazing and what a view – have fun!!
I am so jealous! I miss Australia so much!
And I miss Aussie coffee! So much better than what is available here!
