Sushi, Small Bites & My Weekly Menu

September 16, 2012 by DanicasDaily 11 Comments

Happy Sunday all!  Thanks for all the great comments and conversation on yesterday’s post about how I am working the Weight Watchers Simply Filling Technique.  I am honestly having so much fun thinking of different foods to eat and ways to work the plan.  It really has brought variety and excitement back to my eating lifestyle.  I really do look forward to what each meal will bring.

Speaking of Weight Watcher’s ~ I LOST another .6 lbs today, chalking it up to 13.4 lbs lost since July 1st, when I switched to Simply Filling.  I am someone who falls in the average of .5 – 2 lbs a week, usually never more or less and I will always take losing 1 lb a week over not losing at all.  This week was a bit of challenging for me on so many levels so I am happy with the results and ready to wipe the slate clean with a new week.

Since our leader is heading off to vacation in Istanbul, Turkey, she decided to let us al try a Turkish breakfast to celebrate.

Tomato Slice ~ ok, I am on board with that…..the olive though ~ way too funky for me.  It’s like a really strong olive oil, beer like olive.

IMG_2135

They serve it up with stinky cheese (Feta), jam and pita wedges.  For my leader and only for my leader….I tried the stinky cheese.  Nope, it’s still well STINKY and I didn’t touch my jam pita bread….my bite of feta was that little tiny bit at the bottom Open-mouthed smile

IMG_2137

She also had me bring in another Cheesy, “Bacon”, Egg and Hash Brown Casserole for all those who were not on board with the Turkish Thing.  I had 1 Simply Filling Square – 1 points+.

IMG_2136

For the record, I am pretty sure I’d go hungry at breakfast time in Turkey!

IMG_2141

After the meeting we headed out of town so The Husband could attend a Coin Convention.  He totally bribes me into going with him with promises of visiting my favorite places.

Stop #1 Starbuck’s ~ Venti Iced Coffee with 1 pump Mocha.  I totally missed the 1/2 & 1/2.  I am not sure why I can drink my hot coffee without it, but, iced feels like it needs it. (SF + 1 WPA) – 1 points+.  I also grabbed a banana to snack on later.

IMG_8889

After the show when I was ready to eat everything in site ~ Yokoso for Sushi!

Simple salad ~ SF+ 3 WPA for the dressing and worth it! I am pretty sure I could lick the bowl on to get all the dressing if nobody was watching – 3 points+

IMG_2144

Miso Soup (SF) – 2 points+

IMG_2148

The Husband ordered some Vegetable Egg Rolls which I can normally pass on….however, there was something about the “fried” smell when she brought them out that made me have to have one.

3 WPA – 3 points+

IMG_2150

Sashimi is the only thing that is Simply Filling when it comes to sushi even if it is brown rice sushi.  The thing is, I like all the “stuff” that comes with sushi so I am not sure I could ever do just the raw sashimi.

TUNA STEAK ~ Spicy Crab Meat Topped with Ahi, Avocado, Green Onions, Tobiko SRIRACHA and special sauce made extra spicy for me = LOVE!!

Hands down, the best sushi I’ve ever had in my life. I counted this based off a Spicy Tuna Roll at 1 points+ a piece. (SF+ 8 WPA) – 8 points+

IMG_2161

We did a little shopping before heading home (the last bribe!)  I spent the afternoon prepping for success this week.

I made up a batch of Perfectly Hard Boiled Eggs for snacks & salads.

IMG_2194

A double batch of Harvest Grain Salad for lunches.

IMG_2177

I had a few sample bowls in my 1/4 cup measuring bowl. (SF) – 4 points+

IMG_2180

I bought a bunch, as in like 10, gigantic tomatoes for $4 at the Farmer’s Market just so I could make up a big batch of this Fresh Tomato Basil Soup.

IMG_2206

I need to update my recipe and add it to my recipe page.

IMG_2208

I sampled it too since The Husband said it was too spicy Open-mouthed smile (SF)

IMG_2218

The last part of my small bites dinner was snacking on these gigantic grapes I bought and some watermelon as I cut it up for the week.

Now, I am off to decide if I am going to read Rachel Ray or Madeleine Wickham….

      Hi Jane,

I use the Weight Watchers App on my Droid and E-Tools to track. I have my program selected as Simply Filling to easily see what foods are Power Foods. I will use quick add for foods that are on on the app.

Other apps I like to track, Ultimate Points+ Calculator, Points+ Diary, Fooducate…if you are looking for a version that counts points+ that is non-Weight Watchers.

I would totally love that Turkish breakfast! My kids and I love, love, love feta, but my dh hates it. I’m always sad when I have to change a recipe that has feta in it, so he’ll eat it.

Congrats on your success! 13 lbs is amazing!
I’m getting back to tracking, portion control, and exercise – my FitBit is great motivation. At the end of the day, I really do think it’s nothing more than a numbers game. Unfortunately, the calories I can eat and lose weight is always lower than the calories I *want* to eat.

My husband is Turkish and we’ve been there twice in the last 2 years. Trust me, you would not starve. They have other cheeses besides the feta and the bread is to die for! They often have hard boiled eggs and preserved fruits for breakfast too. I had a hard time doing WW points when I was there because people didn’t know the names of things in English and then if they did know it all of the measurements were given to me in kilos. After about 2 days of struggling I gave up and tried to just eat mindfully and really pay attention to my body & especially my stomach. Most of their food is fresh (i.e. no preservatives) and is delicious – I even ate liver (I was tricked into it but I did ask for seconds so I had to admit it was good).

    Hi there,

Love the site! I wanted to see how you know the calories you burn? Do you wear a heart monitor all day? Thanks!

      Hi Hannah,

I use a Body Media Device to track the calories burned and steps taken. It is the same company that makes Body Bugg and I absolutely love it. Called my BM 😀

For fun, I am also wearing a Weight Watchers Active Link, called AL to see how it compares. Eventually I plan on doing a post to compare all the devices I’ve tried.

Ohh… Madeline Wickham! I have actually read all of Sophia Kinsella books and recently discovered she was Madeline as well! I have yet to read those… but on the list. Have you read any Meg Cabot books? She wrote the Princess Diaries (love the movie with Anne Hathaway) series and many other for teens. But, she has a variety of books for adults, too, that are amazing… especially if you like Sophia Kinsella. I love all types of books, but Chick Lit is a great way to relax and slip away into another world. Some of my favorites by Meg Cabot… Queen of Babble, Size 12 is not Fat (love the title), Size 14 is not Fat Either (laugh out loud funny). Anyway… I could go on and on… google her! Simply the best!
