Happy Weekend all! Thanks for all the great recommendations on finding a great Veggie Dog. I told The Husband all the ideas you all shared and he wanted to “brave” trying them. We have officially been Meatless now for almost 31 days….with Easter being the last day. I will save my Meatless thoughts for tomorrow and get on with today’s deliciousness.
I finally had the chance to bust open our Farm Fresh To You CSA box today. Capay is the local family owned organic farm that grows majority of the produce in our box. I look forward to their little newsletters and recipes in every box.
The “Greens” this week ~ I am a little freaked out by the mushroom – top right, but, I may venture out trying it. I am so excited about the red chard and collard greens.
The fruit…..strawberries, pink lady apples, mandarins and grapefruit.
After putting away our stash, I made a batch of homemade buttermilk pancakes for us.
Two funny facts:
1. I call them waffles when I make them because The Husband will eat waffles, not pancakes.
2. The Husband asked me not to put any coconut or wheat germ or wheat flour or any of that in them. I left the coconut out but didn’t tell him if I left the other “stuff” out.
I used my 2 points+ Coconut Buttermilk Pancake recipe without the coconut.
After all, what he doesn’t know and can’t taste is good for him. Served up with a side of berries and Tully Hawaiian Coffee.

We both teamed up to do a little spring cleaning and spent the entire morning cleaning our house. It was hard work, but, there is something that feels so amazing about walking in the door and seeing everything clean.
Before heading out to run a few errands, I snacked on a pink lady apple and pepper jack cheese square. 2 points+
We ended up at Jack’s Urban Eats for lunch today just so we could build HUGE salads.
In the mix (6 points+):
- Mixed Greens
- Pickled Red Onions
- Pepperoncini’s
- Walnuts
- Grapes
- My “meat” was grilled mushrooms & edamame
- Balsamic Vinaigrette on the side
My salad was amazing and totally hit the spot! The Husband said since he couldn’t get steak on his salad he was getting Urban Fries….I couldn’t resist a few today either…it’s totally the hot chili oil, crushed red pepper flakes and ranch that get me every time. (8 points+)
Now about the Meatless Dogs….I will say the best Dog I’ve had during Meatless March was at The Wurst Restaurant the day I visited the winery.
Based on all your recommendations, I picked up two types of Field of Greens Veggie Sausages at Whole Foods to try.
Smoked Apple Sage…..
Real ingredients….
6 points+ each…..
We also picked up the Frankfurter Field of Greens Veggie Dogs too. 4 points+ each….
I made sure I had a backup plan just in case we didn’t like them ~ A Burger Back Up plan that is….I know I love these Flame Grilled Boca Burgers already…they have a smoky taste that is like a grilled burger.
Hot off the grill everything totally looked like the real deal ~ We covered the dogs and burgers in bbq sauce.
The Verdict ~ I have to be honest ~ I personally could not get past the smell of the dogs when they came out of the package. I had a bite of each then, moved on to my burger. The apple sage was the better of the two in my opinion, but, I probably wouldn’t buy them again.
That being said, please know that I am someone who doesn’t like faux meat products really….I prefer to eat potatoes, beans, lentils, mushrooms, etc. as my protein.
I layered up my bun with ketchup and mustard….
Then, added all the fixin’s ~ spinach, tomato onion ~ I forgot the pickles…..
I may have cut my tomato slices a little big So delicious ~ it really did taste like a nice BBQ burger. (8 points+)
Served with a side of Alexia Sea Salt & Black Pepper Sweet Potato Fries. (3 points+)
STATS:
- Active Link ~ 7 Activity Points, 177% of my goal ~ Hello Spring Cleaning!!
- 35 daily points+
I am off to curl up and read my new Food Network Magazine but I have a feeling I’ll be zonking out pretty soon.
Night all!

I sure do agree on the dogs…it’s the smell…and for the burgers, we’d much rather eat the Annie’s Organic beef, or the Applegate Organic chicken burgers for the same P+. Looking forward to your weekly menu as we’re on the “trying not to eat out as much plan” again…we also love the Alexia products…onion rings are our favorites! Happy Easter!!
