The Choice!

May 22, 2012 by DanicasDaily 6 Comments

Happy Tuesday everyone!  Thanks for all your nice comments on my spin on Butternut Squash Lasagna.  I am glad I can show some of you that it is truly worth it to spend your points+ on real food.  I find that I am actually more satisfied when I really enjoyed what I ate and it’s like I can eat less since my taste buds are satisfied.

Yesterday morning when I woke up at 5 am, I had 2 choices…..

1.  Go back to sleep because honestly I was so tired.

2.  Get up and get my Couch to 5k on.

I pondered that idea for two minutes and it came down to one question.

What will make you feel better all day long?

It was at that moment that I realized working out ALWAYS starts my day off right and there is something to be said for checking off that activity box.  If I would’ve hit snooze I may or may not have fallen back to sleep, but, would’ve probably been tired all day and felt “guilty” until I could fit it in.

SUCCESS!!!  I applied that same logic today at lunch, but, more on that in a few……

Let’s get on to breakfast and that Farmer’s Market fruit bowl that I cannot get enough of….

Followed up with 3 Mini Brown Sugar Banana Nut Muffins (5 points+).

and my last Morning Star Maple Veggie Sausage for protein staying power. (2 points+)

My morning flew by with meetings and when I got back to my desk ~ I once again had 2 choices.

1. Work while eating lunch at my desk OR

2. Get out and get my walk on…..

I decided I NEEDED to get out to and sent a message to The Husband that I was going to walk off my stress.

His reply ~ Ok ~ it might be a LONG walk! LOL…..

I snacked on a banana and Trader Joe’s Lite String cheese (1 points+) before heading out the door and walking 3.4 miles ~ woot woot!

Lunch started with my new favorite combo…..(a new spin on my usual broccoli slaw)

Rainbow Salad (yup, it’s totally called that!), 1 Tbsp Sunflower Seeds and 2 Tbsp Trader Joe’s LF Spicy Peanut Vinaigrette (3 points+)

Plus Butternut Squash Lasagna ~ it definitely tastes even better the next day. (8 points+)

Late afternoon I snacked on a hard boiled egg (2 points+)

with berries & cherries for dessert.

Since we both worked late, we decided to swap our BLTA’s for Panera.  Honestly though, I think  The Husband has a “slight” Panera addiction.

I wanted their 20 points+ Mac N Cheese and bread, but, I chose the Pick 2 that would make me feel better when I walked out the door.

Lemon Orzo Chicken Soup ~ sans the real lemon slices ~ 3 points+

IMG_7207

Half a Strawberry Poppy Seed Chicken ~ it’s packed with blueberries, pineapple, strawberries, pecans and chicken in a delicious light poppy seed vinaigrette.  4 points+

STATS (12 am – 945 pm):

  • 2,690 calories burned
  • 12,630 steps taken
  • 28 daily points+

Q’s

What is one choice you are going to make today to make your day even better?

Night all!

I choose not to let the sudden and total lack of competance of some of my co-workers get to me. Actually, I choose to do this every day since if I dwelled on it I wouldn’t get anything done either due to brooding. My choices have mental health ramifications ^_^ I also pull out less hair this way.

Physical health choice has to do with the elevators in my building. Do I want to take the elevator and meet the “dangerously bounce the elevator car” gremlin? Or do I want to climb to the seventh floor via stairs and get that endorphine boost? Gremlin vs endorphines… Guess which one wins everyday ^_^

Grats on the great choices you made and your will power over the easy choice of the decision. Keep it up!

I too feel awesome when I work out before work. Lately I’ve been doing this 30 minute Classical Stretch and its an awesome way to start the day.

I am going to bike at lunch! 😀

I’ve been on the “injured list” for a few weeks after foot surgery. I can’t WAIT to get up early and have a workout to start my day. It really does energize for the rest of the day. Have a great Wed. Danica.

Danica – way to go for using the exercise to help with stress! I also find it is tough to get up before work, you are stressed and think sleep is what you need. I find that exercise pays dividends!!! Keep it up, and nice job picking the right choices, sometimes it is so easy to just say, I deserve the mac n cheese because I am stressed out…but there are no winners in that situation!

Wow – you had a great day full of amazing choices!! Great job! Very encouraging to us all – stop and think about which one will make me feel better for the day – not just in the moment.
