The South Lake Tahoe Trip Finale….

May 25, 2010 by DanicasDaily 11 Comments

Happy Biggest Loser FINALE Dayl!!!  We had such a fantastic time during our long weekend in Reno and South Lake Tahoe.  We had the chance to be tourists, gamble a little (The Husband won, I broke even) and relax since the weather was not cooperating.  It NEVER snows in Tahoe in May….crazy, but, fun too.

In case you missed it, check out last week’s Photo Friday for a picture recap of Day 1 of our trip in Reno, The Biggest Little City In The World.

The Husband woke me up bright and early on Saturday morning at like 5 am ~ you seriously would’ve thought it was Christmas for him or something :)  He LOVES collecting the $1 Casino Chips so I know that’s what it was all about – he couldn’t wait to get out the door.

It was BEAUTIFUL outside, but, don’t let that fool you – it was seriously BUTT COLD! :D  I made sure we got in a nice long hour morning walk around the city.

We walked up and down all the streets and I snapped a few pictures of some of the original old casinos that are no longer open.

The Fitzgerald is actually the ONLY one re-opening, but, they others are not more 🙁

After our walk, we ended up at Borders where I warmed up with a dirty latte and picked up some reading material.  I LOVE the Food Network Magazine and I couldn’t pass up the Rachael Ray grilling issue!

After making the rounds collecting chips, we decided to head over to Carson Valley and Lake Tahoe.  The weather started getting really cold again and you could actually SEE the snow falling from the sky.

To get to Lake Tahoe from Reno it’s only about an hour, but, you drive up in the SNOW and over this HUGE mountain on Kingsbury Grade.  I think I made The Husband nervous but reassured him our 4WD could hang….Yup, Californian’s are cool like that in a little snow 😉 LOL

We stayed at the Wyndham South Shore in Lake Tahoe.  I LOVE this time share – it’s probably one of my favorites.  The fact that they have FULL kitchens is a good start.

But, really, I LOVE their fire places especially when it’s snowing in MAY when it should be sunny!

They warned us of doing any outdoor activities because the bears are just coming out of hibernation and want our food.  Our neighbors said that they saw TWO BEARS hanging out around the time share that day – FREAKY!  Needless to say, I quickly cancelled our usual Bike Ride and Hiking Trips.

It pretty much snowed all day on Saturday.  We woke up to this view from our window on Sunday.

However it quickly melted and was all gone by the middle of the day.

This would be the place where I would insert my FUN, FOOD, RECAP…but, I dropped my camera on Saturday (half my pictures above are from my Droid Phone). :(  I didn’t pack a back up camera and phones don’t really do great food photos.  I can tell you we ate two of my FAVORITE places ~ The Brewery and The Yellow Sub.

Soooooo….you are just going to have to use your imagination and maybe check out the recaps from our other Lake Tahoe Trips for some delicious eats & scenery shots!

* A Week in South Lake Tahoe last year with my Sis and her Hubby!

* Our long weekend get away!

* Our 5 year Anniversary Trip!

I am sending my camera off to get repaired tomorrow and I have my back up camera I can use for now…but, I am SAD!  My little camera and I have been through alot with our travels and blogging ~ hopefully it comes back just like new.

That looks like a beautiful place! I love snow…too bad LA never gets it haha. Sorry about your camera! I hope it gets fixed ok…I have the worst luck with technology. Whever I send it in to get fixed, it still never works again properly. I may as well just buy a total new one when my stuff breaks!

Danica, I was in Reno a couple of weeks ago and I was sad to see all the old casinos closing. Just another sign of the times. Isn’t it just crazy that its snowing in May? I’m suppose to go hiking Saturday near Emerald Bay in South Lake Tahoe. Don’t know if there’s gonna be snow on the ground.

Your droid takes pretty cool pictures. I’m sorry the weather was so crapy that Timeshare looks l ike a great place to ride your bike and do some hiking and running.
