Happy TUESDAY, not Monday all! I LOVE it when my work weeks don’t begin with Monday. Thanks for all the comments on our “JUNGLE” ~ I am pretty excited to actually have our garden grow and cannot wait to harvest everything.
Speaking of….Have any of you ever “froze” your fresh herbs?
I know you can dry them or mix them up into pesto/ice cube freeze, but, have you ever just “froze” them? I am pondering this as an idea to try so I have sorta fresh herbs this winter if that makes sense lol.
This morning, breakfast happened in this order.
Coffee (not picture)…..stomach growling……
Enter watermelon……
I told myself I had to wait to eat it so I could take a picture……
I couldn’t wait…..So, I snapped a picture and ate it……
While I cooked these Blueberry Kodiak Cakes topped with 1 tsp of whipped butter scattered all over and 1 Tbsp PURE Maple Syrup (7 points+)
Plus a Morning Star Veggie Sausage topped with maple syrup too! (2 points+)
This totally hit the spot and kept me full for 5 hours which was a good thing since I spent the morning waiting for The Husband to get his tooth pulled.
I feel AWFUL for him….They actually cracked his jack bone a little getting his tooth out. He had no choice ~ they had to pull it because a prior dentist did a bum root canal that didn’t need to be done and made parts of his tooth die.
I made him the BIGGEST MILK SHAKE ever but he wanted none….he ate nothing He just took the pack of frozen peas I got him for his face and laid down with the Ipad2 lol.
I waited for him to zonk out before I made lunch at 1 pm.
On a brighter note, I am pretty sure BBQ Pork Rib Salad might be my new favorite thing!
Especially when you add lots of crunch (tons of veggies plus toasted walnuts) and a little sweetness from dried cranberries.
* Leftover Salad from Last night
* 3 oz BBQ Pork Ribs, cut off the bone and measured (5 points+)
* 1 Tbsp dry roasted chopped walnuts (1 points+)
* 1 Tbsp dried cranberries (1 points+)
All topped with 2 Tbsp Trader Joe’s Spicy Peanut Vinaigrette (2 points+)
Today was such a busy day at work and taking care of The Husband. All you mom’s out there, I don’t know how you balance it all. I am completely impressed for sure lol.
Mid afternoon I snacked on a Mini Babybel light for some dairy (1 points+)
Plus a BIG Bowl of Fruit! Fruit is so good this time of year….I am pretty sure I eat more than I picture because I am snacking at I put it in the bowl.
I ate all of this and FINALLY got The Husband to eat 2 pieces that I cut into bite size pieces.
I told The Husband for dinner we could have anything he wanted. You see, I bought just about everything you can imagine so he would have choices.
* Pudding, Ice Cream, Apple Sauce, Mashed Potatoes, Ice Cream for Milk Shakes
* I boiled eggs to make deviled egg salad for protein
* Annie’s Organic Single Serving Mac n Cheese
He didn’t want any of it……you know what he wanted?!
Last nights dinner ~ chunky potato salad, ribs, beans……*sigh* I did mash some beans, cut up a rib into small pieces and…..
Did you all know ~ if you blend up potato salad, it may look sorta nasty but it tastes the same! He finally ate ~ mission accomplished!!
My dinner….1/2 cup Leftover Slow Cooker Baked Beans (4 points+)
Plus 1 Annie’s Single Serving Mac n Cheese ~ I LOVE It ~ what can I say?! (6 points+)

Ok….so, I know this is funny to ask, but, seriously….What are some foods you all can think of that you can eat without having to chew?
He said no soups for now…maybe tomorrow he will want to try again.

Ahh your poor husband!
Without having to chew I eat: smoothies, yogurt, frozen yogurt(!), cream of wheat, even oatmeal if it’s mushy enough. So yeah, pretty much breakfast type food. ^^ You could totally make cream of wheat savory though. Goodluck! ~.^

I have had luck with cilantro, parsley, and thyme in the freezer. I rinse them and DRY them (roll them in a towel), and chop them up, and lay them in a single flat layer on a tray or plate in the freezer. once frozen you can put in a bag or container. The first herb I ever tried to freeze was basil, and it didn’t work, but that was a long time ago,and I think I just chucked it in the freezer whole. Will try again like the other herbs.

Have you tried a cold PAC made from two bottles of corn syrup put into a freezer bag then double bagged and put in the freezer… Never freezes but stays cold for hours and forms around the body easily. I’ve had the same one for two years and use it all the time. Good for any BooBoo!

Hi Danica, I actually had this same thing done a few months ago . Did they give him a gel called sockit? http://www.sockitgel.com/ It’s all natural but most the time you can get it from your dentist and that did MORE for my pain than anything.
I was amazed because I was skeptical at first but one of the assistants told me before I left make sure you use this , it will help so much.
Foods to eat , I think I lived off of mashed potatoes that week and soup(I know he said he didn’t want any). Rice is soft but I don’t suggest it because it gets caught easily until the wound heals. Macaroni and Cheese is good and fried or boiled eggs. Meat spreads might be easy if he is craving meat ,like chicken salad where it is all chopped up fine. And remember don’t use a straw for a week. It can pull the blood clot out and cause dry socket . Hope this helps 🙂

Try to get Jay to have some Lipton’s noodle soup – always works when feeling poorly and can’t or don’t want to eat. You can drink the noodles without chewing. Make sure he keeps icing that face or he’ll swell up like a pumpkin. Thoughts and prayers coming his way.

I’d say cream of wheat, grits, mashed taters, soft scrambled eggs, yougurt , smoothies the kind in the bottles or Kefir, maybe hummus (I’d eat it with a spoon!! LOL) hope he feels better soon!

I had an over abumdance of thyme and couldn’t use what I had to trim… I froze some and used it after a few weeks of being in there. I think it was ‘ok’. I feel like the flavor is more powerful when it hasn’t been frozen, but it still worked and was better than just tossing it out.
When I had my wisdom teeth out, my favorite thing to eat was pinto’s ‘n cheese from Taco Bell. I also ate a bunch of scrambled eggs, twiced baked potato w.o the skin, pudding & jello. Feel better soon Jay!

So, next week my hubby has to have a tooth pulled too. I told him about your guy…he gave me a look. I told him…see you are not the only one…he gave me a look. I told him he should have had his wisdom teeth pulled out many…many years ago…he gave me a look. Am I going to tell about the cracked jack bone…No Way…Hope your guy is okay…poor thing.

I had my tooth pulled a few months ago, because of a bum root canal. Can I please have my money back for the root canal? Seriously! Felt like they cracked the jaw . . . your poor husband! As far as freezing herbs. . . . I’ve never had any luck, but. . . . I do buy frozen cubes of garlic, cilantro and basil from TJ’s. They’re great to use in a pinch.

Ugh, I didn’t know a root canal could go bad, since, with the nerve extracted, the tooth is already “dead.” Poor husband…
I dry my herbs for later use, and that works great. But with basil (and I’d think you could use the same methods for cilantro too), I also like to freeze it. If I don’t feel like making a full-on pesto recipe (or if I don’t have the cheese and/or garlic on hand), I’ll just do a simpler version by putting the basil in the food processor with enough oil to make a paste. That’s it, just basil and oil. Then when you defrost it, you can add the cheese and garlic if you want to make pesto, or you can use it plain for a fresh basil flavor.
If you freeze the leaves just as they come from the garden, they’ll blacken and be unusable unless you parboil them. Parboiling will make them bright green and they’ll stay green when frozen. (That’s another option for the pesto or the paste too. Parboiling the basil first will keep the pesto a nice bright green and prevent oxidation.)
For the pesto or basil paste that I want to freeze to be used in smaller amounts as seasoning, I put a cup or two of the pesto into a quart size zip lock bag, let all the air out, and then smooth the paste within the bag so that it’s a very thin layer. Then, after I freeze it, it’s easy to snap off pieces to throw into a dish as a little seasoning.

So sorry about your hubs – when my husband had a root canal, he mostly ate milk shakes I made that were almost room temperature – the cold was too much.
Great idea on adding the bbq to make a salad – I might steal that idea tonight! 😀

I freeze lots of my herbs and don’t do anything but throw them in a freezer bag. I have frozen thyme, Rosemary, sage, basil etc. It works fine.

Hope your husband has a quick recovery, please make sure that he does not use a straw. Mashed potatoes and gravy are a staple.
I have grown lemon thyme and I have dried it, basil I usually wash well, dry with a towel, place 6/8 leaves in each cavity of an ice cube tray and add water. Let your basil cubes form, and then place in a ziplock bag. This prevents them to turn black. I add my cubes to my sunday sauce or soups (minestrone). I have also done as someone before has suggested to put the basil through a food processor, defrost and add the rust of the stuff for pesto, or use as is for your recipes.
