What are your favorite salad bar toppings?

September 19, 2012 by DanicasDaily 23 Comments

Happy Wednesday all!  You all were cracking me up all day long trying to guess what actually was IN my latte on this week’s Wordless Wednesday.  When I posted the picture I never imagined you all would actually translate the abbreviations.  I figured your brain would pretty much revert like mine did to a little kid or like Beavis and Butthead by thinking ~ there is “butt” on your cup ~ haha.

I actually picked up that latte at Chicory in Downtown Sacramento when I was in training last week.  When I picked up my cup, I couldn’t resist asking, ummmm…what exactly does the “BUTT” represent?

The girl said without a hitch “Butter Toffee” ~ you know, like caramel.  We use BUTT to tell the difference between caramel sauce and caramel syrup.  I was like ohhhh, who knew I’d ever have a drink with butt in it.  She laughed and was like, good point ~ maybe we should change that to BT.

So funny!  For the record, those guessing ~ it was an Iced, Nonfat Decaf Latte with Caramel Sauce aka BUTT sauce drizzled on top.  I will never be able to think of my iced latte the same now ~ LOL.

This morning I was up at the crack of dawn to hop on the treadmill for a 2 mile run.  Today was such a great running day ~ it truly felt effortless and I felt fast.  I wish I knew the secret to making that happen every day.

I didn’t really leave myself much time to make breakfast so I ended up grabbing a hard boiled egg and a banana for my drive into work. (SF) – 2 points+

We had a going away luncheon today at Round Table Pizza for one of my co-workers.  I told myself I can pick whatever toppings I want on the salad bar, just avoid the pizza buffet.

SUCCESS!!!  Even though I went back for more salad, I managed to get away with a big salad and caved to a couple of bites of a veggie slice (I ran this morning just for those bites Open-mouthed smile)

In my bowl (SF + 6 WPA for the cheese, seeds & dressing) – 8 points+:

  • Romaine lettuce
  • Cucumber
  • Tomato
  • Carrots
  • Broccoli
  • Green peppers
  • 1 scoop of 3 bean salad I didn’t eat – it was sweet (weird)
  • Hard Boiled Egg – protein power!
  • 1 Tbsp cheese
  • 1 Tbsp sunflower seeds
  • 2 Tbsp ranch on the side

My salad bar must have ~ Hard Boiled Eggs!  Without them, I would never be full or satisfied.  My like to have ~ sunflower seeds for the salty, nutty crunch.

Before heading back to the office, I grabbed a Grande, Iced, Nonfat, Decaf Latte with “caramel” sauce drizzled on top. (SF) – 2 points+

IMG_2316

When I walked in the door, The Husband completely surprised me by having a “fancy” dinner all made up and ready to go.  I love him! Today was a day I didn’t feel like cooking at all.

BBQ Thin Pork Chops ~ I had one, then, went back for another (SF) – 4 points+ for 4 oz.

IMG_2325

“Fancy” scooped Harvest Grain Salad (SF) – 2 points+

IMG_2324IMG_2326

He used my 1/4 cup measuring bowl to make “fancy” scooped brown rice too.  (SF) – 2 points+

IMG_2330

He rounded it all out with simple side salads although I decided to save mine for lunch tomorrow since I was full.

IMG_2329

STATS (12 am – 845 pm)

  • 2,547 calories burned
  • 9,874 steps taken
  • 6 WPA used, 7 WPA remaining (24 daily points+, including my pizza bites)

Q’s:

What is the one thing you have to have on your salad whenever you go to the salad bar?

As a kid, I was all about piles of shredded carrots with sunflower seeds and ranch.  As an adult, I am all about, the incredible, edible, egg!

Night all!

I love Chicory. I work at the Capitol so it is continent. My favorite is a non-far Chumpkin…any guesses…it is a chia pumpkin latte that does contain coffee. For salad bars, I am a fan of cucumbers and tomatoes, as well as your kid at heart favorites.

My number one choice shrimp…. my second choice chicken.
They have had fresh jalape#o slices at my work’s cafeteria so I add those in.

BTW if I get chicken I mix ranch dressing with Frank’s Hot Sauce to make a mok buffalo chicken wing salad (without as you say the stinky cheese 🙂

Lately, the combo of green onions, chick peas and grapes added to my salad have made my taste buds dance!!! Oh so tasty!
(Wish I could have sunflower seeds in my house to use on salads but I find I ‘nibble’ on them too much. I always add them to my salad when we dine out.)
Love this blog—thanks for all the great ideas!

OK that question is a hard one to answer because it always depends on my mood. Mostly though I would definitely have to say EGG – it gives it that something special, also love avocado on mine. But then there is also the nuts – I love them too. I can’t make up my mind 🙂 – salad is just good.
    I have a question Danica.
I notice that you always post at the end your daily stats. Now do wear just the Active Link to figure how many calories you burn and how many steps you take or do you use something else to track those? I am curious to see once I get past my assesment stage on AL if I will be able to see all that. Thanks for your help.

      Hi MzSlyde,

I actually wear a Body Media Device (like a Body Bugg) that monitors and tracks all the calories I burn/steps I take. You can read about it on this post.

      http://danicasdaily.com/my-new-bm

AL ~ just tracks you overall activity based on the intensity and converts it to Activity Points. There are no calorie or step measurements for it so that is one reason I am still wearing both – they both motivate me in different ways 😀

      Hi Colleen,

You made them perfectly. They are supposed to be crunchy like chips. You can make them in bigger pieces if that helps.

      Good job,

      Hi Colleen,

Yup, I have my lattes without any added sugars or artificial sweeteners. It took me awhile but I eventually got to the point where I could go without them.

I love eggs too! I know you love your Starbucs and had a question…I love the pumpkin spice latte but am not sure how to ask for it for the least amount of points plus. I’m the same way with runs, either I feel like I have it all together or I feel like a slug! Thanks!!

I tend to not get cheese because to me, if doesn’t make much difference when it’s there or not.

I love having different combos, like fruit, nuts, cheese, etc. My husband hates fruit in salads, what’s up with that?!

      Hi Biz

OMG, my husband hates fruit, dried or fresh and nuts in his salad too. Men can be so weird – that is the best part!

    Danica,
After pouring over everything you’ve written about Simply Filling, and printing it all for quick reference (what a lifesaver!), I started the program today. I have a quick question about the WW Smoothies sold in the Meeting Rooms. Are they Simply Filling? Thanks so much, my friend, and keep up the great work you do. I so enjoy your daily posts!

Yes, the smoothies are Simply Filling and I believe they even note it on the box.
