What are your Active Birthday Ideas?

October 1, 2012 by DanicasDaily 16 Comments

Happy Monday all!  It was so fun to hear all about everyone’s adventures at the Roller Derby on yesterday’s post.  It totally brought back memories of all the times I went skating growing up and made me realize, we need to go more often.  We were actually joking about how we need to come up with something “active” to do for our birthdays.

  • So far, we have gone Go Kart Racing for my birthday….
  • Camping In Lake Tahoe for my nephews birthday….
  • We travelled all over for The Husband’s birthday month this year, but, more importantly, we went to a really BIG Water Park last year.
  • Roller Skating for my niece’s birthday…..
  • We are doing something super secret for another birthday coming up but it’s active and I can’t say yet….soon though LOL.

It is kind of crazy to think about how much we are just “BIG KIDS” when you think of our celebrations like that!

This morning I got back into my groove and fit in a 35 minute jog/walk on the treadmill to start my day off.  I need to remember how much that puts me in the right mindset for the day to make it a successful day.

Post workout, The Husband “made” us breakfast…..

  IMG_2801

He stacked up 3 Brown Sugar Banana Nut Mini Muffins on my spider plate (SF+5 WPA) – 5 points+

IMG_2807

And rounded it out with a banana plus a big cup of Italian Roast Coffee ~ LOVE!

IMG_2802

As much as I love those muffins, I am always hungry a couple of hours later.  I snacked on a green fruit bowl that The Husband made plus a light string cheese. (SF) – 1 points+

IMG_2810

I couldn’t wait to dive into lunch today ~ partly because I was hungry and partly because I knew it was going to be delicious.

I started with a big bowl of Broccoli Slaw topped with 1 Tbsp of sunflower seeds & 1 Tbsp Spicy Thai Peanut Dressing (SF+2 WPA) – 2 points+

IMG_2815

Then, I moved onto a big bow of Slow Cooker Turkey & Vegetable Chili that I made up this weekend.  I totally topped it with Sriracha to make it even spicier. (SF) – 5 points+

IMG_2818

After reviewing 500 pages all morning long, I decided I had earned a fun sized Twix!  I am considering it a success to only have one. (SF+2 WPA) – 2 points+

IMG_2814

Some days it doesn’t matter what I eat, I am still hungry.  To keep from eating the house down as soon as I walked in, I snacked on a Fage 0% Greek Yogurt with Blueberry.

(SF+1 WPA for the jam) – 3 points+

IMG_2820

I am really glad we grilled up extra last night just so we could have leftovers tonight.  It allowed me to get dinner on the table in like 5 minutes.

I started with 2 green chili corn tortillas topped with Cabot Sharp Cheddar Light and Jalapenos.

IMG_2823

Layered on some fajita veggies….

IMG_2826

Topped with Honey Chipotle BBQ Chicken with hot sauce on the side for dipping.  I had planned on making salads with this chicken but went with what I really wanted ~ Fajitas!

(SF+ 4 WPA for the two tortillas) – 8 points+

IMG_2833

STATS (12 am – 7:30pm)

  • 2,262 calories burned
  • 7,079 steps taken
  • 14 WPA used, 28 WPA remaining (24 daily points+)

WEEK 4 ACTIVE LINK STATS:

AL is keeping me honest….this message popped up today:

About my slacking off a bit last week…..Time to step it up this week! Love the reality check…

  • AL – 4 activity points, 92% (I am off to go find some activity to get to 100%!)

Q’s

Have you ever had an “active” birthday?  If so, what did you do?  If not, what have you always wanted to do for an “active” birthday?

Night all!

For the past several years I’ve tried to do something new and active on my Bday. One year I learned how to go sea kayaking. That was really fun. Other years I do a birthday hike with friends at my favorite spot nearby. This past year I was tri training and got on a bike for the first time in 30+ years!

No active b’day for me this year (8/25), but you may have inspired me for next year! How ’bout adding “snorkeling in South FL” on your list for this year 🙂 Loving your reviews of the AL and I’m thinking I need one! I’ve been using a fitbit for a year now, and although I do like it, I’m ready for a change! I’ve added cabot light on my grocery list!

I can totally relate to exercise putting you in the right mindset for the day. Good reminder… and those fajitas are already calling my name and it’s only 6:30am 🙂

    Thanks for the cheese mention!

I could totally get on board with active birthdays- much more fun incorporating a healthy aspect into the actual party than going to the gym before the festivities begin!

There was a time many moons ago where my whole family would make it a point to go on a long nature hike at a Provincial Park in St-Bruno, just outside of Montreal. We’d do this for my and my Sister’s birthdays (hers in September, mine in October) and then we’d do it again on Mother’s day and Father’s Day.

But that was a long time ago. Birthdays have become just another day now due to our busy schedules.

    Oh well…

A few years ago, I took myself to Spain for my birthday and went to Grenada, Seville, Madrid, Toledo, Barcelona. I stayed with a friend in Barcelona and we went to Madrid and Amsterdam together. After she left, I went to Florence by myself before coming back to Barcelona for a few days. I did it all very cheaply (in total, probably a little over $1200) and it was the best birthday present I have ever given myself.

My husband took me ziplining for my birthday. So much fun! Last summer was our first time ~we went as a family at Bootleg Canyon in Boulder City, NV. For my birthday, it was in the mountians of Western PA. Loved them both.

I have never had an active birthday, but I think it is a lovely idea. I think we will start implementing it from the next birthday in the family. Moving the focus away from food to something active can only have good results!

We like to go hiking on our birthdays when the weather and time allow for it. Lucky for us the rest of the family also enjoys a day spent out in nature.

The hubs and I want to do a guided bike trip through France or Italy one year. You bike around thirty miles a day and stay in great accomadations with fine dining. My parents did it and had a blast. Great way to see a place plus enjoy great food without guilt.

For my birthday in July, the hubby and I biked from Fort Mason across the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito. It was so much fun, and something I have been wanting to do sometime in my lifetime. The year before that, we went hiking in Muir Woods, and also hiked up Angel Island to enjoy a beautiful 360 degree view of the bay area.
