What gets you through a “Bad Day”?

March 2, 2011 by DanicasDaily 33 Comments

Happy Hump Day everyone!  Thanks for all your Tropical Vacation Ideas!  The Husband and I LOVE to travel if you haven’t noticed by now.  I honestly work so I can travel more and I want to go to as many places as I can in my lifetime.

Today was such a rough day for me ~ I think I should have just stayed in bed.  It honestly really helped me get through the day to Day Dream about all the AMAZING places you all were listing. There are so many places to go, so little time!  Now to pick the next destination…….. Open-mouthed smile

I was up bright and early this morning for my dentist appointment.  I am super excited to say I have No Cavities MOM!  Oh and my dentist told me today I am officially getting old when we were talking about my jaw popping.  He said that’s just what happens as you age….your bones creek when you bend over and that is what my jaw is doing LOL……

After my appointment, I celebrated with a Grande Dirty Latte and a banana. (4 points+)  It was at this point that I realized I LEFT my camera at home!

image

Can I just say I have the BEST HUSBAND in the WORLD?!  He actually brought my camera to me with DOVE CHOCOLATES and slipped this little note in my camera bag that I found later.  I will have to find my picture of my “Choo-Choo- Choose” you cupcakes and share it with you all.

IMG_7131

When I got to work, my computer did not work at all ~ it took our IT department the entire day to fix it which just really through off my day with all the things I had planned on getting done.

It’s a good thing that today was another work moving/packing day to get ready for our big move.  They provided lunch for us and I figured this worked perfectly since I somehow managed to bring NO FOOD with me to work at all ~ who does that?!

I had 1/2 of this Turkey and Cheese Sandwich ~ it was just OK and I decided it wasn’t worth wasting the points+ (4 points+)

IMG_7121

Besides, I’d much rather have BBQ Kettle Chips any day Open-mouthed smile (4 points+)

IMG_7119

I had picked up 2 of these little tortilla rolls ups but only had a bite of each.  They were too salty to me (2 points+)

IMG_7126

I think the BEST part of the entire lunch was the fruit and salad (1 point+) for the dressing.

IMG_7124IMG_7127

I really could have gone DOWN HILL after work with how my day was going.  I had so many ideas of what I could, should, would do, but, I decided I really NEEDED YOGA!

I ventured out and did the 60 minute Gentle Hatha Yogadownload.com session.  It was AMAZING and exactly what I needed.

I honestly felt like I “ringed out” all the stress I have had in my life lately and even found myself crying by the end of my session.  I also debated typing that part Winking smile

I was actually wondering WHY I gave all our wine away after yoga and ventured out to Trader Joe’s to buy some $2 Buck Chuck!  I told the checker I LOVED him for carding me LOL….

I had 2 big glasses while I cooked and baked….it is one of my favorite things to do when I feel overwhelmed in life (cook and bake that is!) (7 points+)

IMG_7134

I kept to my New Year’s Resolution and COOKED dinner when I totally wanted to get take out.  Dinner involved 1 1/2 bowls of Chicken Cilantro Potsticker Vegetable Soup (6 points+)

Random picture I took ~ I am guessing to show you all I used a big bag of fresh veggies and mushrooms Open-mouthed smile

IMG_7137IMG_7148

Spicy Asian Peanut Slaw (1 point+)

IMG_7147

MMMM ~ so much better than take out! I think it was what I was craving too!

IMG_7149

Dessert involved 3 Low Fat Banana Nut Bread Cookies that I never took a picture of (6 points+).  There might have been a few of those Dove Chocolates eaten with my wine too!

image

As I was chowing down on my cookies which go AWESOME with WINE, I decided a little baking was in order too.  I whipped up another recipe from my Green Lite Bites Cookbook which you can now buy on AMAZON ~ awesome!

Roni’s Green Lite Bites Baked Oatmeal Cups.  It’s such an easy recipe and I LOVE that you can freeze these cups too. They are 3 points+ each!

Mix all the ingredients together except the CHOCOLATE and let them soak.

IMG_7152

The batter really thickens as it sits.

IMG_7156

Add in the mini chocolate chips.

IMG_7158

Spray your FOIL muffin liners with nonstick spray.

IMG_7154

I used my Ice Cream Scooper to make sure that each muffins gets an equal amount.  Roni is right on with her estimate, I got 15 perfect muffin cups.

Green Lite Bites Baked Oatmeal Cups

Bake at 375 for 25ish minutes until golden and they spring to touch.  I actually RESISTED digging in tonight, but, I have a feeling in the morning I will be glad breakfast is already made.

Q’s

When you have a bad day, feel stressed or just down, what do you do to feel better?

Believe it or not, for me exercise usually works as much as I NEED to talk myself into it.  But, sometimes, you just NEED CHOCOLATE (I totally believe that), a glass of wine, good food, friends and a good laugh.

Cuddling with my pups is a sure fire way to make my day better… and a nice walk in gorgeous weather helps… or watching birds eat out of my bird feeder!

Danica, coincidentally I came across the recipe for the banana cups with chocolate chips circuitously on another blog today and on the greenlitebites site (dated 3/7/2009) they are listed as 2 WWPs – is the increase due to the new plan? I was up at 0430 this morning with a headache, found the recipe web wandering and in the kitchen making them and handing them out to my sweetie and daughter before they left for work/school this morning. Fortunately for me, I am not tempted because ::::gasp::: I don’t l like chocolate chips. 🙂

When I have a bad day I either go exercise, which I will do today because it’s shaping up to be one of those days (even though it’s only 7:30am). I have a workout scheduled with my trainer this afternoon. Tomorrow I’m doing a 15 mile hike. My other thing to do is hang out with my children. They tend to help me get out of a funk.

Your husband totally is adorable! Very sweet. And all these recipes sound delicious – I’m surprised the points values on some are so low!

When I’m having a bad day, I like to do all kinds of thing – generally just spending some time relaxing, and that could be anything from sitting on the couch watching a movie or fun/silly tv show, catching up on my fashion mags, going shopping (though this can be dangerous to do if you’re too depressed), going for coffee or lunch with a friend or my mom, cuddling with my man, painting

What milk did you use in your calculations? The recipe calls for Almond, but skim milk would be less PP

    HI Gail,

I agree with you ~ I wish her book included all the nutritional information so you can calculate the points+ values. I have been re-calculating the recipes myself as I make them and writing it in the book so I know for the future.

An easy site that I use because you can copy/paste is http://www.caloriecount.com. Another option is recipe builder but be sure to exclude the fruits/veggies since they are 0 points+ and recipe builder adds points+ for them.

If you need help, I’d be glad to point+ out recipes for you 🙂

    Hi Kal,

Yes, the increase in points values is because I calculated them using the new points+ formula. I actually pondered using blueberries instead of chocolate chips since I am not usually a fan of chocolate in oatmeal things. The chocolate in these cups though somehow works and they are quite tasty!

    HI Kim,

Thanks ~ I <3 him!! I actually used Fat Free Milk in mine and recalculated the points+ with the ingredients I used. It is what I had on hand. I do think vanilla almond milk would add an awesome flavor though.

If I’m having a bad day, some things I do to cheer myself up are: go on a walk in the sunshine, do some yoga, get a mani/ pedi …things like that. Being in the sun always lifts my spirits, esp if it’s a nice day. Yoga is SO relaxing, it never fails me. I like doing it before bed to help me to relax the mind. I put on soothing music and turn the lights down and turn some candles on. Any kind of self pampering makes me feel better too 😉

I’m a list maker, even if light on the list doing. It helps me to break down what feels overwhelming into bite-size pieces & make a plan to address it. I’m also a stress/comfort eater, but am working on transitioning myself into replacing eating with activity of some sort.

I’m so glad your evening got better than the day started out. My hubby just called to tell me I have a 25lb box waiting for me at home! I can hardly wait to dig in… it’s from my SIL – MY TRADER JOE’S GOODIE BOX!!!!

I hope today is treating you better. I’m going to a Zumba class tonight after work, then home to dig in my goodie box to see what she sent and cook a nice dinner. Then probably a game of backgammon & a dog walk w/ my bff since the hubby works til midnite.

I’m feeling phresh & phunky w/ my spunky new hat and some of my Zumba gear I’m sporting today… what a goofball!

Cheering up on a bad day: A good friend who lets you bawl whenever you want, a hot bubble bath in a candle glow, curling up with a sweet pooch or kitty, putting on some beautiful music or walking all around the house and telling God what is happening (He always listens.)

I’m so glad I came home from work to see this post. I have been looking forward to picking up my new car tomorrow (Friday) all week, and today I received a call that one of the parts I had ordered to add to the car is not at the dealer yet, and I might not be able to pick up the car until next week. I WAS SO MAD!! I got home and cried for a bit, then called my mom and asked her to pick up a slice of cake for me on her way home… mom + cake = surefire way to make me forget about the car (for now). It also helps to know I’m not the only one who has bad days! So thank you =)

Meh… today wasn’t really that great of a day for me. At first it was because I gave myself some positive talk but it started to unravel when I was at work… but obviously I got through it… and how I did it..? Well I just kept a smile on my face regardless and didn’t let anyone know that negative thoughts were going on in my head. I just looked forward to going home, cooking a nice meal and watching Top Chef (I just finished watching and I LOVE the outcome!!!!)

And now I just look forward to going to bed early… and rising early and taking on Friday because you know what that means: SATURDAY is next! ha ha.
