I think Italy aka Italia was the one place The Husband was the most excited to visit. He was cracking me up all morning saying since he is part Italian, he feels like he is at home there.
Before heading out, I had a much needed Venti iced cappuccino. The big size is intense but still delicious. We also grabbed the only egg sandwich in town at McDonald’s.
There wasn’t any type of requirement or stop going into Italy from France. However, on the way back, you get stopped if you do not have a French license plate.
We drove along SS1 all the way there which is the highway along the water. It was beautiful.
Our first stop was Sanremo, Italy. It sits right on the sea and is a city packed with colorful buildings.
The roads are super narrow and we often wondered, is this a road or sidewalk lol.
We checked out the shops and another castle.
Then pondered renting one of these little carts to drive around.
We finally settled in for lunch at the harbor starting with a caprese salad that we shared.
I had the gnochetti with Pesto and it was just ok. I think in my head I built up that any pasta from Italy would be amazing….not thinking that it may not really be the case in all places.
On the other hand – this Italian banana gelato is the best gelato or ice cream I’ve ever had. It was so creamy, smooth and banana-y.
We drove along the coast a bit after lunch stopping at the cute beach town called Imperia.
The water was so clear and calm.
Along the way he found the “work truck” he would have if we lived here.
And the car he said I’d drive lol. It is super cute.
Once we were back in Nice, we had dinner at Le Milo’s. I had the chicken fajitas which were nothing like our fajitas but still like a delicious stewed chicken (btw poulet is how you say chicken in French).
