Hawaii Christmas Vacation – Days 7 & 8

Hi all! I’m back today with our final Oahu adventures before we headed off to Part 2 of our Hawaii Christmas Vacation. Funny fact about me – Everytime I type Christmas Vacation, I instantly think of the Griswold’s movies and the Go Go’s song Vacation! And, it makes me laugh every time.

We set out on Day 7 to hike to Waimea Falls. I had fond memories of the adventure Park with cliff divers that this used to be. However, it has changed so much. It now costs $16 to get in and I’m not totally sure it’s worth it. It’s about a 1 mile leisurely hike with several side trails you can take as you walk along the river.It is also a botanical garden so you see some  pretty amazing greenery, flowers and crazy huge Lily pods like these.There are also over 20 types of birds you can spot throughout the park like this Nene bird.I remember the waterfall being a lot bigger. It’s about 50 feet tall. If you’d like to swim, they have life jackets and a life guard as well. No cliff divers though…..After our hike, we headed over to the North Shore to check out the waves.And surfers.Even though it was our first really rainy day, it was still beautiful. I loved watching the waves crash over the rocks creating waterfalls.Our other motivation, getting shrimp at Fumi’s and shaved ice!! We found out they had noodles as an option from one of the locals so we shared that as well. Delicious!

After much debate, we picked Duke’s for dinner as we both decided we didn’t want to leave without having that amazing meal again.On our last day in Oahu, we decided to hang out at the beach, pool and walk around Waikiki before heading out for part 2 of our Hawaii Christmas Vacation in Kauai.
